Re: Former Saints LBer Sam Mills Elected to the NFL ProFootball Hall of Fame!
We had a used car salesman mentality before Loomis came on board. As soon as a player showed increased value we would move him or just not pay him when his contract was up. We didn't even have comp picks back then either.

Part of Bill Belichicks "Patriot Way" is trading players when they are near or or in their prime: Ty Law, Mike Vrable, Matt Cassel, Deion Branch, Brandin Cooks, Logan Mankins, Wes Welker, Malcome Butler, Jamie Collins, Chandler Jones, Richard Seymour and Jimmy G. to name a few.

Things were still the same; Sean, after that incredible first season run deep in the playoffs, was the one that convinced Tommy B to spend; Loomis is just a yes man... |

I found this doing a quick search:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Mills Mills became a free agent at the end of the 1994 NFL season. The expansion Carolina Panthers offered him a two-year, $2.8 million deal. While New Orleans matched the offer, Mills was displeased that the Saints did not make an offer until the Panthers forced their hand, and opted to sign with the Panthers. |

Thanks for catching me on the wrong time frame about Tom Benson. We owe even more to Sean Payton than we thought. You are correct my friend. |
