Re: Terry Fontenot Has Done His Job
This move could cost the Falcons $40,000,000 and Calvin Ridley $1,500.
But seriously, there is some merit to cleaning house in Atlanta. Matt Ryan has a knack for stats but he chokes in the 4th quarter of playoff games. If he didnt win in his prime surrounded by talent he wasnt going to win as a one man show in his twilight. They tried to buidl around him for one last run and Ridley ghosted the team. They could have made one more run, maybe got into the playoffs as a wildcard, but TOM brady with Mike Evans and company was going to win the division over Matt Ryan throwing to the cast of golden girls. And then as wildcard, with Matt Ryan in the 4th quarter and no D, we know the story. What would have been the point? I do agree that they could have got a bit more compensation. |

Re: Terry Fontenot Has Done His Job
What I can't believe is they thought they could get more than a 3rd for a 37 y/o QB in the twilight of his career.

Re: Terry Fontenot Has Done His Job
What Terry is doing is called rebuilding. Reasonable Falcons fans must be thrilled in hindsight that he dumped Jones and Ryan with perfect timing right before they became clearly washed up and liabilities on their new teams. He took cap hits everyone said no team could take any now the Falcons are $54 million under the 2023 cap while we are $54 million over. What that means is that the next time we lose a Marcus Williams, Terron Armstead, or Trey Hendrickson it may be the Falcons signing them. Cam Jordan may finish his career a Falcon if we dont keep up with them in cap space. With how perfectly Fontenot timed dumping Jones and Ryan, it would be foolish to doubt him on dumping an injured Jones. He is not the perfect GM. He made a mistake drafting a TE at #4 overall, the position it too unpredictable to ever be worth that high a pick and in hindsight clearly Chase, Waddell, or Horn would have been better. But Fontenott is doing a much better job as GM than Loomis. The Falcons have the same record as the Saints and they have done it with $110 million less of future money committed and they still have a 1st round pick to add a QB and they dont have future suspensions looming over key players for next year.
