Has the page turned on the Book?

I Wanted to hear peoples thoughts. Book’s name has rarely come up in media or on boards as far as I’ve seen during all the QB stuff that went on. Trades for Minshew and others were discussed without bringing up his name at all.

He was a 4th round pick. Major has mentioned OL players can be found along this area of draft and I agree. So Was/is Book just a wasted pick along with other QBs Payton drafted during his time here? Should he be considered a viable candidate to take over the team one day? Is he considered our number 2 QB right now?

Interested to hear viewpoints.

Excellent question.

I try not to hold that one start against him considering he was running for his life the entire game, but, yes, I think you lump him in with the rest of Payton's "projects".

Also, I think a lot of the talk of bringing in another QB is to have someone with some experience on the roster. I think Book is probably on the roster this season, but as 3rd string at best.

If he wants to prove me wrong, I would love to see it.

Indeed his performance in that “game” cannot be used as a measuring stick. What do you think about Hill vs Book as no 2?

I think I'd like a 3rd option.

I am honestly confused about the depth chart right now. I do believe Book is another year away from being considered for the 2 spot, but is Hill still considered a backup QB or not, and what is Bortles projected role?

The Miami game counts for nothing. Depends on how he looked in practice last year. Was he making good decisions? Can he make the full range of passes? Good footwork? Good throwing motion? Did he make progress as the year went along? If the answer is yes to all of these is yes then keep and develop him. If any of these are no and there is someone in the draft who looks better then cut bait. Me I think we should keep him. Sean saw something in him.

IMO we should have Jameis locked in as QB1, Book as QB2 and Taysom focused on his TE/QB power role while serving as emergency QB QB3.

I wouldn't argue with this approach. I'd leave it 'open' (wink wink) in camp just because - at least the first couple weeks, then I'd roll with the QB room the way you suggest.

QB1: Jameis Winston
QB2: Blake Bortles
QB3: Ian Book/Taysom Hill
