this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Fair question - Was the market for Dalton red-hot, or could we have waited?...

The fairer question to ask is: Is three weeks early enough to justify the potential of a potential loss of a 3rd rounder for a backup QB, one that will hopefully not play. And does that also mean they have less confidence in Ian Book? This move may be more controversial than we realize. We'll just have to see it unfold. | |

I'm guessing they wanted to get him in before offseason activities began so he can learn the system and get some familiarity within the organization. I'm not mad it. Dalton should be a really solid back up for 2 or 3 years.

This makes perfect sense. Getting your primary backup in place in time for off-season activities is worth more than the possibility of maybe getting a pick after the tail-end of the third round (actually basically a 4th rounder) IF Terron Armstead can stay healthy for the Dolphins (which is absolutely not a given).

It will largely depend on the totality of other signings; but if the Saints lost a Top 100 pick in the draft because of this signing - then the heat will be brought to bear... And if anyone questions the importance of a Round 3 compensatory pick, bear in mind, we just traded one of those picks in the trade with the Eagles, to gain a R1 pick... Also Trey Hendrickson was drafted with an acquired compensatory R3 pick (Brandin Cooks Trade), so despite some fools, there's definite value with those picks... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Some times you just have shake your head and smile at these underemployed GM’s that work this board … of I’m just a fan circa 1967 😎✌️
