Now presumably they lose the 2nd and the 7th they already traded. They may lose other lower picks. But trading a 1st round next year for a 1st round this year is a swap, not a loss of a pick.

The only real thing that bothers me about this trade is the fact we will be without a first round pick next year in a draft class that is supposed to have several good Qb options. As much as I admire what Winston has overcome I still don’t think he’s a long term answer. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe it’s part of their cap management plan by acquiring young players on a rookie salary. Winston develops them and then go for a Qb in two years when his contract is up. The timing would be right cap wise as you wouldn’t have to shell out as big money contracts within the span of two seasons. Assuming they all earn it.
