The final pre-season "tune-up" game is on Friday vs San Diego. I'm curious to see what starters (if any) play on the opening drive on offense AND defense. |

It might be to keep the starters fresh for a long season but who knows?

Re: 2022 New Orleans Saints: Training Camp
Once again one of the main topics of today on NFL Radio has been the holding of starters out of preseason play and the growing importance to coaches of dual practices. The consensus between talking heads, former coaches, former players, and a former GM, was that dual practices greatly outweigh the use of preseason games especially for the starters. The number of simulated live reps in the practices dwarves the same number of opportunities in the games. They said that timing or comfort is established in the dozens of weekly practice reps, not in a handful of game reps.
They also brought up the thought, once again, that if it wasn't for the revenue (through broadcasts and ticket sales) tied to the preseason games the coaches would "almost" unanimously choose to have those dual practices exclusively and do away with the preseason games altogether. |

Re: 2022 New Orleans Saints: Training Camp
A lot of it should be related to how stable your team is…especially with the Offense. If you have an established QB with a healthy returning line and healthy, established WRs that have built up a relationship with the QB and Head Coach then fewer preseason reps probably doesn’t matter. Unfortunately the Saints don’t have any of that.
