We've had St. Augustine for 30 years. It handles the heat well and is thick and plush right now with intermittent watering. It's been dry as hell here and 100 almost every day for 40 days. We have a lawn treatment service that handles fertilization and pest applications year round which helps. I mow to four inches which they said was best for St. Augustine and it does seem to be ideal for our climate here, for sure. ![]() |

I am merely on year 1 of my lawn. One more year of leveling and all the above should do me. And you gotta fertilize it , like all grass really, every 6 weeks. The big box store stuff isn't good enough and it's more expensive. Peruse your local SiteOne Landscape Supply, if you have one. You'll never use any other stuff , even the weed killer offerings. | |
