Saints safety Marcus Maye charged with aggravated assault with firearm, denies allegations
 

Two days after trading starter Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Eagles, the Saints have more drama in their secondary, this time due to an off-field incident. Starting safety Marcus Maye, the former Jets standout who signed a three-year, $22.5 million deal this spring, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, according to NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill.

"Marcus vehemently denies the (assault) allegation from a motor vehicle incident," the safety's attorney, Eric Hessler, told NFL Media, "and looks forward to defending himself when all the facts come out."

This is the second time in two years that Maye, 29, has been arrested. The sixth-year veteran was previously involved in a car crash that resulted in DUI charges. That occurred in February 2021, but Maye did not report the accident or criminal charges to the Jets, his team at the time, until it became public last October, per ESPN 97.5 Houston. His hearing for that incident was repeatedly delayed this offseason, but could also be subject to NFL discipline.

Sounds to me like he is not being completely honest.

Apparently the Saints held a scrimmage with the Redskins and the coaches asked both Maye and CGJ to stop Redskins RB Brian Robinson no matter what it took. CGJ didn't listen to coaches. Maye did.

The good news is if we have an off year, the Eagles will have an opportunity to draft a franchise QB and we will have an olineman who is injured and got into fights his first practice which really fits with the culture we are building and who we can sign to a long term deal right before he shoots someone and tears his ACL.

At this point, should we try to lure Malcolm Jenkins out of retirement?

The other real shame to this is that I wasn't really against some expensive Saints veterans committing felonies this offseason. I just wanted Michael Thomas, Taysom Hill, and Andrus Peat to commit the felonies so we could waive their contracts. But no. It can't be them. We will have to resign them all to long backloaded extensions with more guaranteed money to get under the cap. Please Marcus Maye, if you get arrested again just do us one favor. Bring Andrus Peat along. Give him a ghost gun with a switch. Make it happen.
