Falcons sign veteran receiver

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons signed receiver Jerome Pathon on Wednesday.

Pathon caught 34 passes for 581 yards and a touchdown for the New Orleans Saints last season. In his eighth season, he has 259 catches for 2,332 yards and 15 touchdowns overall.
The 6-foot, 195-pound Pathon adds depth to a nondescript passing corps. Peerless Price was cut in the preseason, while Dez White and first-round pick Roddy White have been slowed by injuries.

"I don't think he'll figure into the plans for a week or two, but you never know with injuries," coach Jim Mora said. "He's a veteran, he knows how to play, he's got good hands and he's tough. We'll see how it goes."

Pathon spent his first four seasons with Indianapolis, which picked him in the second round of the 1998 draft, before moving to the Saints in 2002. He has 62 career starts.
