Payton and Brady Teaming Up in NOLA?

It's not outside the realm of possibility. Payton is still under contract and Brady is a free agent willing to take a deal.

I would love to see Sean work his magic with Olave and Shaheed.

Re: Payton and Brady Teaming Up in NOLA?

From the article ...

If anyone can provide an immediate fix to the Saints’ foundering quarterback situation, it’s Payton.

One person close to Payton and familiar with his thinking believes a return to the Saints is possible "if things go sideways" in New Orleans. He went so far as to rank the Saints No. 1 on the list of teams Payton might coach in 2023 if he elects to return to coaching.

Is Goodell's disdain for the Saints greater than Brady's favoritism? This would certainly put the refs in a tricky spot.

It would be more of a dilemma for the conspiracy theorists. :D

Not sure how I would feel about that. Brady in a Saints uniform would be difficult to accept.

I don’t see Payton coming back to New Orleans! We will get draft picks for him and should trade Thomas for more! With Shaheed and Olave, Thomas is expendable! Just sign another Veteran wide receiver and draft our QB of the future. I would love to see us get a new OC and DC! Bryce Young should be our target!

Re: Payton and Brady Teaming Up in NOLA?

It might be possible we could compete for a year or two with Brady and Payton while pushing the cap mess down the road if somehow our patchwork oline holds up. But, this would put us in even worse cap hell and might force offering extensions to the likes of Peat, Hill, and Thomas to defer our liabilities. This would put Payton in the position of facing a massive rebuild in a couple years. I am not sure Payton would sign and extension to face that. If he didn't, he could coach here again for two years and become an unrestricted free agent and leave for nothing as we face a massive rebuild with Mickey Loomis signing Pete Carmichael as his successor for continuity to coach a 35+ year old Taysom Hill as the only QB left.

I feel like with our cap and roster situation and lack of a 1st round pick, a run with Tom Brady probably is not worth it. Unless after retirement Tom would stay on as a general manager like Elway with the Broncos etc. I feel Tom saw how to do things right in his time with past teams and would be a big upgrade over the gambling accountant.

Apparently Payton himself is open to the idea. You may think it is laughable, but obviously Jeff Duncan, among others, do not see it as humorous. He said what he misses the most are the friendships. He has plenty of those still in place in New Orleans.

Re: Payton and Brady Teaming Up in NOLA?

Pass on Brady. He’s too easy to sack. To win big games he needs the refs to ignore holding from his line. While that happens all the time when he plays against the Saints it won’t happen if he plays FOR the Saints. He won’t win another title.

I would love to have Sean Payton back coaching the team. However, I don't know that I could stomach Tom Brady playing for the Saints.

He had those three minutes handed to him like (literally) a script.

Had an assist by Saints players failing to catch a ball and committing a stupid OPI, but he did made the plays when he had to.

Alas, a poorly coached team and untold variables allow rookie QBs and veterans to shine alike against us. "Just keep doing what you're doing."

You still hung up on that single paraphrase of what Dalton said he was told after those two pick sixes just before the half in the Cardinals game? Still trying to twist it into meaning something more meaningful to fit your narrative? Context means everything.

Come on, Sinner. Any good coach would tell the QB to blow it off and keep executing the game plan (ie. just keep doing what you're doing). And he did in the second half of that game by outscoring Arizona, but came up short.

MY narrative? Nah. The WIN/LOSS Column brings everything into context.

No. The phrase that you keep throwing out there was specific to the QB being told to forget what just happened in the 2nd quarter one one game. The overall record has nothing to do with that one isolated piece of encouragement; therefore, out of context.

And, yes, your narrative. Trying to tie that one isolated piece of second hand information to some sort of ongoing incompetence is also out of context. However, I am sure you can find something that truly does fit your narrative if it is so obvious. :D

It's not my narrative, and it's not that one isolated piece of second hand information. It's a poorly coached team having a piss-poor season.

You sure about Tom? He’s broken, missing open WRs & throwing INTS.

Niners are rolling with a BACKUP at QB. The Bucs beating us last week was fools gold. Niners up 35-0 and the 3rd quarter just started.

I’d leave Tom where he’s at.

I often wonder if it’s the “system” though?

Niners seem to have success with back up QBs.

Then again, Shanahan is a damn good coach & play caller.

Niners have a more complete roster, stellar O line and more elite weapons. Something Saints were supposed to have until injuries decimated them again...

I've said before, put Dalton on the Niners and he gets more wins than Jimmy G and they're a playoff team.

Shanahan is also a much better play caller than Carmichael.

Addressing the articles premise.

Payton Manning? Sean Payton is the reason we are in the QB debacle we are in. That three headed humidity breathing dragon is of his making. As far as Brady goes.. WTF really? So we can be in the same situation in 2 years? Some people are pissing on their foot because it's hot while the world burns around them.

I'd rather clean the house and start a new era over rehashing the old error. Everyone's head on a pike:bng:

Had a whole paragraph typed up and it just reiterated what TheOak just posted.

Take Payton and give me the draft picks. Take Tom and send him off into the retirement.

What a terrible idea.

Re: Payton and Brady Teaming Up in NOLA?

I agree. The NFC South is in shambles right now. Atlanta doesn’t know what they have in Ritter and are still in rebuild mode. Carolina has no coach and no qb, Tampa will either go with a 46 year old Brady or will be starting fresh with an average at best coach. If the Saints are gonna rebuild and still be relevant in this division there could not be a more perfect time. Hopefully we can get a first rounder for SP and get our qb of the future via draft. Personally I’m not usually in on Ohio St. quarterbacks but I think Stroud could finally be the guy who could break that curse. And truthfully who has better luck with OSU talent than us.
