I know, eh? Tulane's RB ain't no joke. There was once another Tulane RB the Saints didn't wanna draft that went on to have a stellar career with the Bears.

Matt Forte, IIRC

That was the 2008 draft. Forte was taken with the 44th pick. The Saints selected a guy named Tracy Porter that went on to be the hero of the Super Bowl with the 39th pick of the draft. (no pun intended)

I'll take the way that turned out.

:D

So long as we're playing 20/20, we could've/should've moved back and selected Talib, and still got Forte and another draft pick. Sedrick Ellis was a forgettable and very average pick.

Ole' Egg Ellis. Who can forget that waste of space. Wasn't worth that pic, maybe a 7th rounder when everything was said and done.

One thing about the New Orleans Saints is when we miss we miss big! I think our average would be good in baseball where we can be considered good with one third percentage.

We have never moved back under Loomis. Not once. They don't believe in it. I don't believe that's a bad thing. Loomis has said that they believe in quality over quantity. They don't always hit, but they have hit quite often over the years.

Safety is definitely a big need but weren’t the coaches impressed with Smoke during training camp and OTA’s

I think he was being compared to Gardner-Johnson without the drama and for a base free agent rookie type contract.

That's a hefty comparison to Johnson. Look at his stats. And to think we let him go.

1. Extract maximum compensation for Payton.
2. Get under the cap so we can plan for future free agent acquistions. Not just primarily focusing on 2023.
3. Figure out the path of what we want to do at QB for the future and execute.
4. Beef up the DL.

Yes we're over the cap and yes our DL is aging but... it's still a very talented team. We actually do not need to do a complete reset, we just need to be smarter in the moves we make and how we make them. We're realistically not competing for the Lombardi next year but we can still play good competitive football and hope to get lucky. It is very important we don't get shortsighted and plan accordingly. 2024 will be the big year for the future of our franchise IMO unless we somehow land a big name at quarterback for next season.

All things considered, it really wasn't that bad of a year with all the injuries and the patchwork play at quarterback.
