Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles

I am happy we won. Dennis Allen is probably better than he was with the Raiders. I hope we win next week. But we really need to face the music this offseason, focus on unloading bad contracts, not trading future picks, and cleaning up our salary cap to give our young core a chance in 2024 and beyond. We may have the talent to make the playoffs in 2023 but we dont have the talent and cap space to go all the way while carrying albatross contracts like Peat and Thomas. We need to cut them no matter how big the cap hit. If they want to evaluate Dennis Allen further. Give him some adversity by using any cap we can generate to get out of those bad contracts not add more aging injury prone vets, and see if he can still coach scrappy like the panthers and falcons did this year and win some games while rebuilding a bit.

Also Gardner Minshew is not as good as Andy Dalton. We are better off drafting a mid round qb and hoping to strike gold than paying $15-20m/yr for known mediocrity.

Nice game, still a lot of issues to sort out for 2023, but we shall celebrate this win and hope to win another against the Panthers next week!

One thing that stood out to me was Gardner Minshew. IMO, he did not look like the same guy from a couple years ago when he played for Jacksonville. His velocity and accuracy was very inconsistent throughout the game. I bring this up because I know he is a possible candidate to join the Saints next year, may want to rethink this one.

I was looking forward to see Gardner Minshew play football as I have not seen him recently. I know there were a lot of folks on here who wanted to bring him on board next year. I'm just curious if they still feel that way after watching the game.

Dalton is our backup next season. We need a starting QB.

Is he? Winston is signed through next season. Do the Saints drop him or re-sign Dalton. Do they have both next year?

Didn't watch the game so I can't really say. Jimmy G is probably the best option if we're not doing a rebuild but will probably cost the most. Minshew, Dalton, and Winston are just place fillers if we go the rebuild route. Honestly, it really doesn't matter who it is for the latter. Winston is under contract so it'll probably be him.

Jimmy G missed 23 games the past three years. He's the perfect QB for CGM!

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles

1. Having Lattimore on the field is huge. Too bad he missed so much time this year.
2. Dalton is basically Matt Ryan with red hair. He makes some plays, but the INT and 2 of the sacks were all on him.
3. Saints have 2 great young WRs. Plus J Johnson.
4. Special teams did well. Good punts penning them deep. Hit the FGs and XPs.
5. T Hill is a player
6. Need help/depth at RB.
7. I may have overestimated Minshew.

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles

Another option at QB is you keep your 2024 1st round pick, draft a qb this year in the 2nd or 3rd round, and if that qb does not pan out, suddenly the 2024 pick is very high in the 1st round. Meanwhile if they do pan out, they are much younger, cheaper, less injured, and more upside than garappalo or minshew etc.
