Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
Real good win on the road in what is typically a tough venue.
Where has this team been all year? Does it feel that it may have turned the corner? This is also the first time Coach DA has had this many wins in a row in his career. Eagles appeared to be in disbelief, perhaps even underestimated us. We missed Lattimore way more than we realized. Congratulations to Cameron Jordan on his career sack accomplishment in passing Ricky Jackson. Slim playoff hopes still alive as the Reskins/Commanders lost today, even with Tampa winning in the closing moments against Carolina. Let us enjoy this win on this the new year 2023. Happy New Year, everybody! May it be prosperous and bountiful for all of us, including the Saints! Who Dat ! |

So can we Still get in?

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
My observation is that this is bittersweet at this very sensitive (for me) time of season (end). So painful to be in this position, where a WIN against a good team today, means nearly nothing, and does nothing to erase the poorly coached, improperly trained batch of talented players' batch of bad moments that put us in this position.

Either the Eagles did not play their game, or that was not the Saints football team on the field. I believe it to be the former,,,,, making this win even more pathetic :dunce:

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
We are not mathematically eliminated from the Playoffs. This is beyond Calculus. The simple Physics of a poorly coached, improperly conditioned, unsynchronized team of talented players (plus Taysom Hill) simply could not WIN enough to be a Contender this year. Ready for more of the same next season? I'm not.

Couldn't watch today, so have to rely on the hightlights. Looked like a good mix of Taysom and Dalton. Love seeing Lattimore get that pick six.
Y'all still want Minshew? |
Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
I only watched the box score and listened to the 4th. But this is probably going to be the win that saves DA's job. The players must want him to stay. But I still think we will need to interview other OC's. This game would have likely went to Eagles w/out Lattimore.

Big picture, the Saints have been “done” since the Cincy game. Losing all of those close/winnable games came back to bite. |

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
Sucks. Been a tough year for me. Moved out to the middle of BFE 45 min away from the nearest gas station or any kind of civilization. The only people I have contact with are four coworkers and the occasional guest. Big culture shock and lifestyle adjustment. The Saints having a good year would have gone a long way towards helping me adjust. Hell even seeing improvement or a positive sign of things to come would have helped…
That being said, who were the bright spots this year? Who has developed or surprised. I really haven’t had the time to keep up. I know Olave is a beast, any surprises? |

I don’t remember his name, but the kid from Tulane impressed me.

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
I am happy we won. Dennis Allen is probably better than he was with the Raiders. I hope we win next week. But we really need to face the music this offseason, focus on unloading bad contracts, not trading future picks, and cleaning up our salary cap to give our young core a chance in 2024 and beyond. We may have the talent to make the playoffs in 2023 but we dont have the talent and cap space to go all the way while carrying albatross contracts like Peat and Thomas. We need to cut them no matter how big the cap hit. If they want to evaluate Dennis Allen further. Give him some adversity by using any cap we can generate to get out of those bad contracts not add more aging injury prone vets, and see if he can still coach scrappy like the panthers and falcons did this year and win some games while rebuilding a bit.
Also Gardner Minshew is not as good as Andy Dalton. We are better off drafting a mid round qb and hoping to strike gold than paying $15-20m/yr for known mediocrity. |

Not only this season but his ENTIRE body of work speaks for itself. IMO this guy will walk into Canton first ballot :bng:. |
Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
Nice game, still a lot of issues to sort out for 2023, but we shall celebrate this win and hope to win another against the Panthers next week!
One thing that stood out to me was Gardner Minshew. IMO, he did not look like the same guy from a couple years ago when he played for Jacksonville. His velocity and accuracy was very inconsistent throughout the game. I bring this up because I know he is a possible candidate to join the Saints next year, may want to rethink this one. |
Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
I was looking forward to see Gardner Minshew play football as I have not seen him recently. I know there were a lot of folks on here who wanted to bring him on board next year. I'm just curious if they still feel that way after watching the game.

Dalton is our backup next season. We need a starting QB. |

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
1. Having Lattimore on the field is huge. Too bad he missed so much time this year.
2. Dalton is basically Matt Ryan with red hair. He makes some plays, but the INT and 2 of the sacks were all on him. 3. Saints have 2 great young WRs. Plus J Johnson. 4. Special teams did well. Good punts penning them deep. Hit the FGs and XPs. 5. T Hill is a player 6. Need help/depth at RB. 7. I may have overestimated Minshew. |

Re: Observations from the Saints Win vs Eagles
Another option at QB is you keep your 2024 1st round pick, draft a qb this year in the 2nd or 3rd round, and if that qb does not pan out, suddenly the 2024 pick is very high in the 1st round. Meanwhile if they do pan out, they are much younger, cheaper, less injured, and more upside than garappalo or minshew etc.
