Ex-Saints DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson says he's 'treated better,' around 'better guys' with Eagles

BY PATRICK MAGEE | STAFF WRITER

...

Gardner-Johnson spoke with the media after his team's 22-16 victory over the New York Giants to lock down the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a 14-3 record, and he touched on the differences between his experiences in New Orleans and Philadelphia.

"It's been better than expected," Gardner-Johnson said of his first season with the Eagles. "I get treated very, very, very better than I was in New Orleans. You play better ball when you're around better guys, around better athletes."

Following that comment, Gardner-Johnson was asked the follow-up question of, "How so?"

"You've got two of the corners that can cover better than me," the Florida product said. "I was covering all down in New Orleans. When I got the chance to play with some lock-down corners, I just figured out my role."

...

Gardner-Johnson's critique of his former Saints teammates was the most surprising part of his comments on Sunday. He played alongside one of the NFL's best cornerbacks in Marshon Lattimore, and the New Orleans defense was consistently one of the league's best during his time there from 2019-21.

This made me glad that he’s gone. I get being mad at the organization and front office, but to disrespect his former teammates? Cancer. I’m definitely rooting against him now.

Now we start to understand why the Saints were so quick to unload him for relatively no compensation. Going to be interesting to see how he acts once free agency hits, especially if Philly doesn't offer him the money he feels he deserves, or gets a tag put on him.

Re: Ex-Saints DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson says he's 'treated better,' around 'better guys' with Eagles

OH NO!! A former player "Bad Mouthing the team he just left?" The First Cousin to"It's Not About The Money"
Here is what Malcom Jenkins said about the Eagles upon his return to the Saints: “I gave everything I had to the city, to the team,” Jenkins said, via Zach Berman of TheAthletic.com. “Did everything the coaches asked me to do, did everything to make the players around me better, try to put my best football out there. And it just wasn’t valued that much by those who make the decisions. For me, it was just more of a principle about respect. I really didn’t care what the money was. But I wanted to see what the respect factor was. And it wasn’t valued what I thought. And so decisions are made. And I ended up at a place that values what I bring.”

Then turns around this December and tells Philly: On Tuesday, Jenkins told NBCSP’s John Clark that he was working out and still in good shape, adding that, if called upon, he could still play.

“It’s not far-fetched. I’m still in it,” Jenkins said.

“I do enjoy my seat watching as a fan, but I could come in for a stretch.”

Sounds like "Tell the FANS what they want to hear"

Saints want their 1st Rounder back? Here you go!!

I believe this gives a little more insight into why he was sent off in the first place. It was already known he was disrespecting his coaches. It shouldn't come as a surprise he'd do the same to his teammates.

Lols him saying he "covered all in New Orleans"

Someone wants to show the 49ers game, where Kittle made him look a fool and CGJ basically lost that game for us.

He could do no good in my eyes after that play.

This is who CJGJ has always been - a little over the top and not afraid to ruffle feathers or invoke animosity. That's also part of what we had liked about him. I'm not going to do a 180 and say I'm glad we are rid of him. He's an antagonist to his opponents, which now includes us. It is what it is.

The day he turned on the coaches and training staff this August at practice sealed his doom with the Saints. He had refused to practice for days and then unleashed on some training staff when he finally did shortly before being shown the door.

So you are telling me that a player who is known for trash talking all the players on other teams trash talked players on his previous team when they traded him to another team? Wow I am absolutely shocked. I thought he would be like super respectful and polite because this isn't a game and he isn't trying to get into peoples heads, this is more like Model UN and he is trying to get elected Miss Congeniality. Likewise I would have expected that when he was on our team, if he faced a receiver he used to play alongside in college, they would talk about the weather and their families during the game in between tackles to maintain the friendship.

He's a hot-headed person with a big ego that's undersized and has been missed multiple games due to injury while playing a complimentary role. His arm was all jacked up with us and now he's hurt again. Can't stay on the field.

MT has nothing to complain about.

Besides, why would he? The franchise clearly thought more of MT than they did CJGJ, hence the trade for pennies.

Something about this reminds me of this guy named Eli Apple. He didn't like anybody from anywhere he'd been. And his teammates turned on him. We'll see how that works out over there in Philly.

For some reason I'm reminded of Eli apple and his big mouth.:poke:

Edit: I didn't think the first one went through. I do like the poking with the stick emoji.

Re: Ex-Saints DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson says he's 'treated better,' around 'better guys' with Eagles

The slimeball is back at it calling out his DC.

“They made a lot of good plays in that second half,” Gannon said when initially asked about the Eagles defense in the second half. “We weren’t able to get some stops when we needed to. I obviously could have done a better job of coaching a couple things that I want out of the calls. Tough to swallow when you look back at that because it’s such a big stage and we didn’t get it done. . . . But learned a lot from it. You’ve got to give credit to Kansas City, but obviously I could have done a lot better job with some of the things were were doing.”

Eagles safety C.J. Gardner- Johnson, who is scheduled for free agency later this month, saw a tweet of Gannon’s response and quote tweeted “You ain’t put us in a position to make plays.” He later deleted the tweet.

They could if they want to. The currently are sitting at $9.8 million over the cap. They have quite a few contracts, however, that can be restructured. Along with roster bonuses they use something called "option" bonuses. They work the same way. They can be converted to signing bonuses to free cap just like Loomis and Harley do for the Saints. Philly basically copied the cap management strategy used by the Saints. They have about $26 million in convertible bonuses and about $10 million in base salary that can be converted, as well.

Awe! Isn't that too bad. Nobody wants Ceedy and his sorry ass yet.

From the article:

There have been crickets this week regarding Gardner- Johnson. Typically, that’s a sign the player wants more than anyone will pay.

As one league source put it on Saturday morning, anyone who remains available at this point is overshooting the market.

I’m for certain that whatever team he plays for next, there will be problems. The kind of problems nobody wants.
He disrespected his teammates and OPPONENTS(they still remember )
while here. He did things that went past normal sportsmanship.

He crossed the line with his former teammates when he left.
He’s for certain not coming back here.

Other than Philly, I’m not sure why any team would want to bring that into their locker rooms.

He good, but this is too much to look past.

Yup. His ass was going to get cut because of his antics anyway and time was running out before the regular season. Loomis got a 2023 5th round pick and turned a 2025 7th rounder into a 2024 6th rounder.

I wonder if all the Loomis Allen incompetent idiot staffer comment when the Ceedy trade went down feels different now or they still on that path until they hit the cliff.

There are definitely users that see things with strict anti-Loomis/Allen glasses. The Saints could win the SB this year and they would still find fault. They would gladly take it over a cliff.
