New Orleans Saints signing quarterback Derek Carr to four-year deal
 

The New Orleans Saints are signing a deal with quarterback Derek Carr, according to a report by the NFL.

The Saints are singing a four-year deal with Carr, who will head to New Orleans after nine seasons with the Raiders.

Carr will start for the Saints as starting quarterback after its worse season since Hurricane Katrina, where the team cycled between Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston.

Since Drew Brees retired after the 2020 season, the Saints have started five different quarterbacks.

Carr was released by the Las Vegas Raiders last month and also considered the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets in free agency.

Contract details have not been released.

Never liked Smith with that big mouth. He likes to hear himself talk and has to be the focal point. He's gonna change that tune about the Saints at some point, watch, he gets on any bandwagon going bye.

I think Carr has all the potential to be a very good QB for us.
People always harped on about Matthew Stafford never winning playoff games until he signed with the Rams and won the Super Bowl.

If we can surround Carr with good players and Pete C is locked away in a box somewhere, I think we'll be successful.

What does it say about the NFC South that the Saints signing a QB who has never won a playoff game makes them the favorites in the division?

We'll draft a QB, hopefully Hooker, to be our backup QB in learning and waiting.

Valid point, however to put things in perspective, Brees had only one winning season and lost in the only playoff appearance before coming to the saints.
On paper we have the best quarterback in the division, regardless of any unproven drafted qb the other rivals may draft.
Not saying we’ll definitely win the division, but our chances are high imo

I think I'm going to like our draft a lot better now that we're not obligated to take a quarterback. Let's get RB and DT some help and we're back in the playoffs... one would think.

If the players are reacting positively, I'm willing to give him my support. He needs to produce immediately for his own sake, and the sanity of the fan base.

I agree that at least the team has a direction, new identity, and someone to draft around. Defense is good. Let's see how this pans out.

Raiders fans should be more concerned that they haven't had a defense that ranked better than 20th in two decades including the whole time Carr was putting up career numbers better than several hall of fame QB so far in his early career.

Carr has always produced. His problem has been that his teams also always had horrible defenses. Just look at Matthew Stafford.

Very valid point. They seem happy so I am too.

This gives us greater flexibility in who we're going after in the FA and draft. I'm kinda hoping for a big ol' DT or a real mauler at LG in the first round.

Some of the bullet points that led to Carr signing;

- Stable Ownership.
- Competent stable front office.
- Offensive scheme
- Input into the game day planning, ie Dot play selection.
- Drew Brees constructive discussion of inside the Saints front office, coaching
staff, team culture in QB to QB 1 on 1 briefing.
- The Offensive Coordinator briefing DC on the offense being structured for DC
was key to it coming together in selling DC on the Saints.

I sure some or all of these points will cause various levels of discomfort to some.

Relief, gratitude with expectations now for an excellent 2023 and beyond For most.
