this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Am I the only one that believes the only reason the Panthers are doing this is because Dalton has intimate knowledge of the Saints playbook?...

Dalton is a serviceable backup.

The veteran was added to help mentor their rookie QB. A bridge.
I'm just hoping the Panthers don't select CJ Stroud with that #1 NFL pick. Frank Reich has a real, long-term plan in place. |

Re: Panthers Sign Former Saints QB Dalton
There are multiple players from every team every year that move on to other teams that have intimate knowledge of their previous team's playbook. I have read and heard that there is very little, if anything, to be gained that opposing teams don't already know. It is also my understanding that playbooks change to differing degrees ever year.

Good for him, i think once a player gets to this stage of their career, just finding employment is a good thing, probably can't get to selective as to where they may go. As far as gaining any significant knowledge from our offense, doubt there's much value there. I'm also of the belief it's to mentor their young player.

He'll play more than we think. Historically THEE Ohio St QBs have performed poorly in the NFL. Jeaux Burreaux doesn't count, btw, for those attempting to insert him here. He's an LSU product as a result for a real poor decision by Urban "fake headache" Meyer !!!

I don't think Carolina is too concerned about the Saints offensive playbook. Dalton was highly praised for working with Justin Fields, I am sure Carolina is seeing that same opportunity with the guy they draft. PJ Walker and Matt Corral are also young guys who could benefit from Dalton's leadership.

Speaking of NFC South QBs, Baker Mayfield is now a Buc.
That 2018 draft class looks below (Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield) average. Josh Allen & Lamar have done well though. |
