Bump ...

DJ Chark signs with Carolina.

If Frank Reich figures it out at QB, this team is going to become a problem in the NFC South down the road.

Then we need to hit on every draft pick! Carolina needs to remember that the Saints are the big brother of the NFC South and quit trying so hard to show us up.

Meanwhile TreQ wonders. And Callaway follows SP.

0-2 vs Panthers in 2022.

Allen "gots" to do better in 2023.

So do we draft K Boutte to make up for the Callaway loss?

Hell nah. I never understood the hype. He’s never looked good to me.

I don't see it.

Kayshon is too damn inconsistent for my taste & he really struggled at the combine. It's easy for me to say but he could use another year of SEC competition. Sure he can be coached up but he's a pass for me.

IMO I'd look for Callaway's replacement via Free Agency.

We better draft the future at Pass Rusher.

Better include DT, S, WR/TE, and RB while we're at it.

The annoying thing is they did years ago when they drafted Hendrickson and they let him walk for "Mr half a sack"

Not to mention Zach Baun who set some kind of college record for sacks, somehow became a linebacker.

I really hope they don't draft DE in the first round, the track record from 2 game Turner and 2 1sts makes me want to vomit.

Kikaha, Baun, Davenport, Payton Turner's of the world …

IMO heavenly influenced Sean Payton "picks".

If any of these names fall to #20 (realistic), I'm making phone calls:

TE Myles Murphy
WR Quentin Johnston
DE Michael Mayer

Jordan, Kpassagnon, Granderson, Turner, and Jabari Zuniga.

Zuniga -

Ourlads' Profile:

2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about JABARI ZUNIGA: Florida, 6033 264 4.64. Two-year starter, Marietta, GA. Started games all four years. Has been used as a versatile inside-out player who can take advantage of interior blockers and tackles. He has a style that may be too quick for guards and centers and too powerful for the tackles. The tools are there to be developed and the flashes on tape go to show there is a high ceiling of edge prospects in the class. He had a hard time staying healthy but if a team can pinpoint the right role for him and he can stay on the field, watch out. Built for the trenches, both inside and outside. Thick and powerful upper body with long arms and big hands. Thick from the waist to knees with basketball player calves and ankles. Versatile inside-out defender who has been equally productive from both spots. Has a stifling initial punch to the blocker’s chest with a low base, often standing the blocker up. Outstanding straight line burst in both tight areas and in space. Gets across gaps with urgency. Plays with different gears, shows the ability to close hard and fast. A violent finisher. Has flashed dominant traits all four years of his career. Has failed to consistently put things together, never quite lived up to the hype and potential. Will lose track of gap assignments at times. Plays an aggressive style that can sometimes come across as reckless and roaming. May be a player without a true position. Has durability issues. 2019 stats (6 games): 14 T, 7 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 QBH. Edge speed:left 1.97, right 2.12. OSR:2/25. Third/fourth round. (A-32 7/8, H-10 3/8, BP-29, 10-1.64).

He has an injury history and is another developmental player. Buyer beware.

Yup. Me too. If we do draft at the position I'm expecting them to be basically rotational depth. Moving on from Davenport should give Granderson a more prominent role and I believe he'll make an impact.

One thing that confuses me is how badly the defensive line has been dogged on their sack numbers. I've heard said that sacks are just as much a team stat as an individual stat. The Saints finished last season ranked 5th in the NFL in sacks as a team.

Nice season for CG in 2022 but the Saints better hope the lights come on for Payton Turner in 2023.

In my opinion, we need to aim higher at DE. Outside of Cam, we have a lot of depth players at the position.

Speaking of DEs…I read saints met with Will Anderson who will most likely not get out of top 5 maybe top 10 tops You think they’d trade up that high for him? Why else would they meet with him?

Payton Turner better show out Granderson or we've just wasted another #1 DE pick

They get a certain number of visits, right? I believe it's 30. I've heard that teams meet with players that they doubt will be available via draft just to learn about them for later in their careers. One question they say is also asked is "Who should we be interested in that you've either played with or against?" in one form or another. You need to get as much information as possible in your allotted visits.

I have also heard that teams don't even visit with players that they already have decided to target. It makes sense.

To be fair, Granderson was an UDFA prolly due to his legal troubles. He really should have been drafted . And yes, Turner needs to step up to justify his draft capital .

There's been far more intrusive questions asked according to players. That's why the league nipped that in the bud.

LSU WR Kayshon Boutte A Non-Participant in LSU Pro Day Testing Drills

Like I stated earlier, it's easy for me to say "stay another year @ LSU" and work on his craft but I don't think Boutte is ready for the next level.

The NFL is a different animal.

I don’t like him at all man. I watch almost every LSU game and he just never looked good to me. There’s like 8 or 9 guys in the draft I like over him.

Re: OK Then... New Biggest Need

I feel like we've addressed most of our needs in free agency like we always do before the draft approaches so we can go BPA. Our biggest needs are still DT, DE, G, LB'er, safety, WR/TE, and RB.

Rugby Saint II 04-02-2023 02:12 PM

Re: OK Then... New Biggest Need

The strongest positions in the 2023 draft class are considered to be CB, TE, edge defender, WR, QB, interior defensive line, interior offensive line, OT, RB, safety, and LB'er. Almost all of these positions are wants or needs for the Saints this year.

This is one of the most promising TE classes in recent drafts but WR doesn't have very many #1 WR's like in years past. This year there a lot of complimentary WR's available throughout the draft. This might be the year of the second rounders like when we drafted CGM in 2016 and he shocked the world and lit up the scoreboard. Fingers crossed MT comes back healthy and can stay on the field.
