I mean if I'm Moreau, there's something very poetic about signing with the team that likely saved your life.

His health is the main thing, but if he's set on being ready to return at some point, I'd like to add him to our roster.

A full physical is usually one of the final steps before signing a free agent. I would expect that both parties were on board before the discovery. I see Gayle Benson written all over this. I believe if he is signed he's got access to team insurance. Whether he makes it back this season or not the potential cap use is worth the good will.

I guess anything is possible, however returning to play professionally at a high level after chemo treatment seems a tall order inside of a year.

Chemo is tough on the body. It took me a full year to get off the couch but I was playing again six months later. He is young and really fit, so he might be available before then. Good luck Mr. Moreau.

I think it's more than just PR, papz. Moreau said that he'd been told his prognosis is good and he could be back as early as October. It would be a good move to have him locked up on NFI in case he's needed (ie. Krull or the rookies don't pan out or we don't get another vet). He wouldn't count against the 90 man roster.

So the Saints TEs consist of a converted QB who has his fair share of injuries. A converted WR. An offer to a player battling cancer and a couple UDFAs who haven’t caught any NFL passes. In the draft we ignore the position to get a guy who might be our third string QB, and an O linemen and DE that will provide depth but aren’t planning to start this year. Sorry if this has me scratching my head a little.

By the way, you do realize that the Saints use a DL rotation, right? Foskey's going going to get plenty of playing time. And I'd be shocked if Saldiveri doesn't see the field quite a bit himself.

And also by the way, what TE did you think we should have drafted and when to make our draft not so abysmal in your mind? :D

I really think this was inevitable as soon as they did the initial physical that identified the lymphoma. That's usually the final step after coming to contract terms. They wanted him and he wanted to be in Nola.

Four open spots remain now on the 90 man roster.

It appears that with the treatment plan being in the term of weeks, rather than months, as Kat Terrell reported, there's a good chance that Moreau will be ready to go either by the beginning of the season or early in the season at worst.

Once again, the front office knew what they were doing.

Edit: It appears that Moreau will be ready to go right away! Awesome news all the way around!

$8 million "fully" guaranteed is the key here. No way you fully guarantee 2/3rds of the contract if you have any doubt he'll play. We should still have at least $12-$13 million left after this deal in 2023 cap space to make more additions.

Good to see that Foster's health seems to have this good of an outlook so far. Now the depth at TE looks better.

HB depth is now the big concern ... IMO we have to plan for the worst and presume Kamara will be on suspension for basically the entire year. Washington and Eno Benjamin don't move any needles for me. Unless we know that Texas Tech kid is going to be a dawg we oughta keep looking for depth behind Williams and Miller.
