The 2023 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I'd take a flyer on DT Matt Ionnadis . Experienced & still pushes the pile. Breese will require some time to develop into that dawg most believe he will become....

They keep saying that, about Bresee needing time. Is that to keep our expectations in line? Even with the notion that DTs may need some time to develop and gel with the team, my expectation, our expectation should be to see him inserted immediately and produce immediate results. He's no longer injured. Suh was a force to be reckoned with in year one. And Bresee was being compared to Suh.

Don't disagree for depth purposes, however.

I tend to agree with you, Smash. We have a rotation at DT for the most part anyway and from what I have been hearing is that Bresee should be involved from day one. Ourlads has him slotted at starter and they have always been about as accurate as it comes from my experience.

+1. Unless you are a team stacked at all positions then you should expect to get a starter with your first round pick.

Re: The 2023 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

Who is this "they" that says Bresee needs time?

https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft/positions/_/position/dt

Pre-Draft Analysis

Bresee is a dominant run defender with the strength to stack and shed blockers. He has the quick hands and feet to slip and split linemen. He locates the football quickly, chases down ball carriers and is an effective tackler. As a pass-rusher, he needs to improve his ability to string together multiple moves. He's powerful and flashes as a hand fighter. -- Steve Muench

Matt Miller's NFL comp: Zach Allen

Post-Draft Analysis

Bresee is a powerful interior defensive lineman with the size to control the line of scrimmage. With Khalen Saunders added in free agency, Bresee will be asked to start next to him, with Cameron Jordan flanking them. Bresee has tremendous upside if he can stay healthy and is a natural fit in a 4-3 front. -- Miller

Projected Year 1 impact: High-impact Day 1 starter. Bresee enters a team that desperately needs help along the interior, and he brings a young pass rush presence that's also stout against the run. -- Jordan Reid

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” — Winston Churchill

Not sure if you are locked in to any of Mike Detillier's takes, however a few days back he was talking about how most players (D line specifically) will either take a couple of years to develop as a complete DT because they need to refine technique based on height.

His example used was Chris Jones (similar height/torso to Bryan). Year 1, 2 he was getting gashed vs the run until he polished up and developed.

I thought that was an astute observation.

Will BB START immediately? ... I hope so but personally I'm not expecting "immediate results". It takes time. The NFL is a different beast.

Detillier has been as astute as he's been off the mark on players if one is to assess his observations through the years. The video you posted with Greg Cosell seems to show a bit more insight than what Detillier offers.
