Re: Could The Saints Buck The Trend?
Quick recap: The Saints still have a bunch of "what if's" because of health & no one truly knows how many games Michael Thomas will play in 2023. CB depth is probably our strength but still wasn't good enough. NO TAKEAWAYS (franchise low) on defense in 2022. And Will Lutz is no longer Mr. Automatic . Yep, all of these FA roster moves, and the draft is good on paper. Players still gotta play/execute & coaches gotta coach. Let's geaux |

Don't forget that playcalling depends upon having players that can execute. Missing 3/5th's of the offensive line, your starting QB, and three of your top WR's has a tendency to play havoc with having called plays executed properly. From the stands I could see wide open receivers consistently ignored by Dalton. Sure, Carmichael could have been more aggressive at times, but you can hang a lot of that on the players or lack there of.

Like he did in 2021? Don't forget, we were decimated that year, too, and had Payton in charge. We finished in the bottom half of the league in scoring. As great as Payton was he too was hogtied by the injuries that year. It was arguably the worst offense in his tenure. Would we have been better with him calling plays last year instead of Carmichael? Probably. But by how much?
