So Keandre Miller is dealing with a hamstring issue and coach isn’t so
certain he will be ready vs Titans in the season opener.

And remember he had a “knee” concern earlier. Tough way to start.

Especially with no AK for the next 3 weeks.

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

Many of the talking heads are predicting the Titans will win the AFC South this year. The defense is strong especially the front seven.
They have talent on offense with arguably the best RB in the league and one of the best WR's in DeAndre Hopkins, though both are aging.

Listen to uncle Iceshack. This won't be easy for the Saints so prepare for a struggle. Expecting an easy Saints win here is folly.

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

I have a feeling we're going to miss Kaden Elliss this game. Playing against run oriented teams, we need to play more 7 man fronts with a true 3rd linebacker instead of an undersized nickel/safety.

We're probably going to have to rely on our offense putting up some numbers. If we can put up 27 points, we may be able to take it.

SmashMouth 09-01-2023 08:47 AM

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

Their QBs are serviceable but not upper tier. The reality is that the NFL is not a league of elite teams and lesser teams. All games no matter what we think are typically close anyway. That's what RG and the owners really want. Even last year for us, we could've won a few more games had the special teams come through. At the end of the day the Saints are a better team that last year, IMHO. The Titans are too, probably. I think we have a bit of an advantage as they have no idea what the D Carr iteration of this offense will unearth, especially with a healthy MT, a better overall WR/TE corps really. The same old precept holds true, the team that commits the least number of mistakes will probably come out on top.

Hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere but blockzilla (Trequan Smith) had surgery last month & is expected to be out several weeks.

What isn't this guy on IR?

I am sure he will be placed on IR soon, I would also not be surprised if Miller lands there too.

Logically because they expect him to be back sooner than week five. Also, don't forget there is a limit to how many players you can recall from IR. You don't want to use those on a WR5 when you may need them for a starter later.

See reply above. They are not going to use IR unless it is absolutely necessary because of the limited number of recalls available. They brought this up last year concerning a couple of players that weren't placed on IR.

Maybe. I'm not a doctor but this guy may have a sports hernia .

Promote someone (special teamer/LB) who can actually help you on next Sun.

Jaylon Smith comes to mind. Titans are a old school Power I running type team. We need to clog up as many run lanes as possible. Henry only needs a crease and he's off.

I was thinking Jaylon for that same reason.

Would you elevate Jaylon Smith vs Titans ?

IMO is a solid #3 option and plays well against the run.

papz 09-01-2023 10:33 AM

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

If they deem him ready, yes. 4-2-5 will definitely continue to show our deficiencies in stopping the run game. We need to find a good balance here. It's unfortunate injuries zapped Jaylon's athleticism but his football IQ alone should be able to help us. But who knows, maybe the light turns on for Baun like it did for Elliss last season.

They’re a tough, gritty team. A physical game would be in their favor. We have to jump out on them quick and make them abandon the run game. Make them show us Tannehill can win the game for them. Lattimore should be able to keep Hopkins in check. Henry…thats a different story.

I thought Jaylon Smith was gonna make the 53. Maybe they put the cut slip in the wrong “Smith’s” locker.

+1.

A guy (TS) who has missed basically all of training camp due to a serious injury that required surgery hold on to a roster spot is just wild to me.

Saints will be lucky to have him back in the rotation by early October.

Sean F (or maybe it was John H) wrote an article stating that "if" "Trequan misses this year opener, it will be the third consecutive season that he has missed wk 1 because of an injury".

Best ability is availability.

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

This should be an intriguing matchup. DHop vs Latt, their Oline vs Saints Dline.

Rookie Tyjae Spears could see some action & give Henry a breather or two. He's (TS) had a really good camp.

Certainly worrisome at this early phase of his NFL career

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

I'm not trying to count chickens before they hatch, however looking at the teams and QB's we face in 2023 ... Ryan Tanneyhill may be the biggest challenge for our defense in Sept. Here are some of the other opponents we see early on:

Bryce Young (2), Jordan Love, Richardson, Mayfield (pick 6 in waiting), Mac Jones, Stroud (rookie), Ridder, Goff etc ... any given sunday but these guys don't strike fear for me in crunch.

Our new Dcoordinator along with Allen should bring the kitchen sink with different defensive looks.

IF the Saints bring their A game, each Sunday ... we should be in a good spot by late November, early December.

But hey I get it ... ANY GIVEN SUNDAY.

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

If there's any week I don't want to face Derrick Henry, it's week one.

Over the last four years he's averaged 160yds per game in week one.

Is that state meaningful? Probably not. It's Derrick f'n Henry and he's going to get 100 on us by default. I just hope our Run D is improved.

Did you see how poorly our young wide receivers blocked in that last game? I did not want 3Q but I understand why he's still here. We need a good blocker to open up the yards after catch.

Well that is saying quite something about the guys behind him not being able to beat him out. I have said it before, TS is the WR version of Scott Shanle.

Great example. Shanle seldom made splash plays but was rarely out position.

Here's a new segment from NOF on Tre'Quan and why he's still around. It speaks to all of this. The most telling line, I feel, is the last one where Triplett says something along the lines of "When it comes down to the 5th WR it's not about making catches," it's all about the other stuff you can do for the team.

Well after he's "rehabbed" his groin, he can add 50-65 lbs and become added depth to the O line .

At this point, I"m focused on guys who will contribute (special teams) next Sunday. The Titans.

Re: Week One: Titans @ Saints

On paper, this game is a toss up.

No Kamara, no blockzilla & no certainty if Miller is able to go at the moment.

DCarr may have to air it out a bit to keep that stingy Titans defense honest.

MT could be doubled, leaving Olave and Shaheed in single coverage. I expect Juwan to be quite active as well.

One week away :bng:!

If you watched the video you know that Triplett also pointed out that Tre'Quan contributes to special teams whereas the vets they brought in couldn't block OR play special teams.

Agreed. Old school philosphy. Tough game.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what our new Dlineman will do. Bottle up DHopkins and Henry. Burks has been up and down as a pass catcher, but still dangerous.

FYI, one of their talented CBs Caleb Farley will remain on the PUP list & is out vs the Saints.

I think DCarr will win these matchups against their secondary.
