Of course. Only blindly obsessed fans & maybe the occasional homer reporter "take their opponents lightly" each week.

Those 31 other NFL teams are pros too.

Don't bring your A game, you WILL get take an L on sundays at this level.

Us blindly obsessed fans do not have an opponent to take lightly or seriously. We understand that what we think doesn't have an impact on what takes place on the field.

So, you are upset that I don’t agree with you when you say we are going to “kick their asses” and believe it will be a close, one score game?

FYI, Coach Frank R has stated that Jaycee Horn's injury is serious and will be out for quite a while. Surgery isn't out of the question either.

It's been labeled as a "freak" injury.

I'm not a doctor but geesh, that could be potentially season ending.

Good kid, good player and I don't wish injuries on NO one.

Nope. You can believe whatever you wish. Just as I can believe whatever I wish. And I believe our team will kick their asses.

Then what exactly does “Geez” and an eye roll emoji mean? It’s what you gave me when I expressed my thoughts that the game is going to be close. I honestly don’t understand what you mean.

The eye roll had nothing to do with any disagreement. It was not wanting to debate something so silly. Hell, I don't even disagree with you on any of it. The team shouldn't take the Panthers lightly. That's a given. I just don't think because I'm not at concerned that the players wouldn't be, as well.

Can't wait to go 2-0!

I wasn't disagreeing with his opinion at all. Read back through. He kept disagreeing with mine ... as meaningless as mine is anyway. It isn't even an opinion. That's why I "rolled my eyes". The guy will argue with a frickin' fence post. :D

Back to the game.

The Falcons beat them by 14. I would like to see us win by 14 or more, or else you can't help but call the Falcons division favorites at this point even if the Lions beat the Falcons (the Lions have to be favorites in a stronger division this year). If we merely win, which can happen because many NFC South games are often tight, I don't want us to get caught up in our own hype.

We’re supposed to blow this team out. They don’t have anybody on offense that should threaten our secondary. Miles Sanders always seems to run well against us though. I’m not banking on victory at any point this year. I just want the offense to take a giant leap in the right direction.

I read somewhere DC4 is on pace for 5000 yards. He'll probably take a bigger leap toward this this game .

If you throw 300 yards in game 1 of a 17 game season you are on pace for 5100 yards. Thats math. But it doesnt mean a 300 yard game can’t be a B grade performance if you are 1:1 on TD:INT and you offense scores 16 points. I look for better.

Your hype or my hype don't matter. We can hype all we want with no affect. That's what so fun about being a fan.

A number in the win column is all that really matters as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Week 2 - Saints @ Panthers

If the defense plays as spirited as they did in the last game it will go a long way to a victory. I would like to see them actually get to the QB more but pressure is good. Our secondary appears capable of doing their part.

I feel that while Carr is getting more in sync with his offense our defense is his key. I have always been guardedly optimistic about Derek Carr.

Our O-Line and running game are a wee bit suspect. These two negatives concern me a lot, not necessarily about this game but the season. Granted we are down Kamara but he is only one man and an injury contains him more than any defensive scheme can.

Carr's outlets are currently the TE's since we don't have a back that has shown they will be able to get open in the swing and catch a ball. We know Williams is north-south.

If the O-Line improves and performs that diminishes the need for the quick outlet and gives Carr time to pick apart a secondary with Thomas, Olave and Shaheed. As the team sat last week for their first game the defense picked up the slack, but that is what winning teams do.

I think we will win the game but need to see the offense improving and heading in an upward direction to have more confidence in them.

Never take any opponent lightly when you're "supposed" to win. Especially, in the Dirty South!

Last year when we played Carolina, a QB who threw for 47 yds., 2 INTs, Sacked 2 times, and had a QB Rating of .... wait for it... 2.8... WON!

Hit them hard! Hit them often! And score! Let's get it done

All good points with regard to the Oline performance and it’s affect on Carr and timing on route development. This week will tell give us a clearer picture, for me I just think 1st game of the season and they faced a team that has had the #1 and #2 run defense for the past 2 years and they added a speed end rusher this year. There was plenty of struggles across the Oline last week Penning being the most obvious.

If that type of Oline play continues Monday …. we’ve got problems. For what it worth after week 1 Power Rankings the Saints are ranked at 13 and the Panthers 30. Titans come in at 24.

Rankings 1-12 in order
49ers
Cowboys
Eagles
Chiefs
Bills
Bengals
Dolphins
Lions
Browns
Ravens
Chargers
Jaguars

If you get a chance, check out the film study Rev Windham did on the interior D-line play.

Saunders & Roach were getting it done in those trenches. That interior "push" was getting there. Something that we missed last year.

By the way, Carl Granderson's hand technique is impressive & he's strong.

Saints are getting a lot of praise offensively, however, for me, it's that defensive front and secondary.

You stop the run, you make teams one-dimensional & subsequent turnovers. Saunders (his gap discipline is solid) was a key signing this off-season.

Turner won't be missed much if any. We'll prolly get better with our depth. Hopefully WTFoskey can step up and contribute sooner than later.

You hear all the time about the speed of the game and every player takes time to adjust. Missing all of the time these first two off-seasons have to have had an affect. Just look at Ruiz. His first two off-seasons were totally non-existent and it took him time to become a really solid starter. Hopefully things start slowing down more and more with each game and practice.

We were actually also missing our rookie RB Kendre Miller who is expected to be contributing on a regular basis. Hopefully he's back this week.

Saunders was probably our best offseason acquisition. He didn't grade out well but he looked good enough to make an impact. Our front seven is going to spoil a lot of OC's game plans! :p

I don't know about not missing Turner much. He was looking like he had finally turned the corner and was getting pressure throughout training camp. I think he'll be missed even if Foskey gets all of his snaps.

Regarding the above post, the tweet says "looking for #51 against the Panthers" and my mind went right to thinking that the Saints would somehow be making a point to the Panthers that Sam Mills is a Saint, not a Panther. I had to re-read the tweet to see that I missed the point due to Freudian slip.

Turner had 6 stops and 3 TFL in his very first NFL game. In his first season his "5.3 pass rush productivity score from Pro Football Focus ranked 10th among the 26 rookie defensive linemen (both interior and edge rushers) to log 100 or more snaps."
Source: https://saintswire.usatoday.com/2022...player-grades/

He's clearly a player who can make an impact as evidenced by the play he got hurt on.

Injuries obviously derailed him. And then did again. And now, unfortunately another freak injury will sideline him until December (estimating).

My take is that he'll come back in December. Make some splash plays in the playoffs but we ultimately won't pick up the 5th year option and we'll hopefully have a great player on a friendly contract who can be a great value in 2024.

Foskey needs to prove he deserves to be on the field.
