OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
We suck. No Fire (especially the firing of our inept Head Coach)
Will the second half prove me wrong? |
Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
Carmichael is an idiot when it comes to personal groupings.
DA, zone coverage is garbage, cover 87 man to man... #41 gets you 5-7 yards every play then you take him out for nest 2 plays and go 3 and out three straight drives... Carmichael "I love that game strategy, I'll do that ALL GAME!" WHAT A MORON |
Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
I agree. He as to go. The sad part is he will be here next year

Haven't been watching. Don't need the stress. What happened with Carr? Was it a dirty hit?

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
-Completely out played and out coached.
-OLine just whipped. -The defense KNOWS Carr is going to be in the same spot. -Two things to defend the Vikings. Dobbs running and Hockenson. F- -Sadly, I think the team tries harder with Winston. -How do you not even TRY Hill on 3rd or 4th and short? -Perry was was WIDE open on that last TERRIBLE pass by Winston. -Reminds me of the Saints I cheered for during the first 30 years of my Fandom. -Eight wins at best. Probably seven. |

We are in trouble. The sky is falling in slow motion, and it could last for at least a few more years.

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
Back to mediocrity.
Saints aren’t contenders. It starts at the top though. |
Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
Was there even one Taysom Hill running play today?

Dennis Allen said after the game that we have to figure out how to be more consistent. The irony is that we do, and the answer is a head coaching change.

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
“Halftime edition “. Lmao 😂
Trevor Penning is looking like a terrible former rd 1 draft pick. This team looks and plays OLD. Our bona fide playmaker (Taysom) is non existent down the stretch. What is Pete Carmichael thinking here? I just don’t get it. I hope Derek will be ok but let’s be honest here, you’re not going far with him as your starting QB. This year or next season. Just can’t see how people are still buying in to Dennis Allen as HC. He’s a substitute teacher. Look at the Texans today. 1st year coach AND rookie QB finding ways to win. Just be glad Stroud is in the AFC & not playing for Carolina. Oh well … it’s the bye week for a .500 ball club. |

Saints make losing a work of art! :beatnik:

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
I know it's cliche to say that our problems start at the top with Benson/Loomis, but now I am 100% feeling it to the core of my being. There are some parallels between us and the Vikings, in that it's becoming more obvious to see the moves of a winning organization versus one that is in substantial decline.
Loomis is ALWAYS afraid to make a tough decision, unless that decision is a silly trade-up in the draft or signing a bad dead-money-oriented contract to a veteran. Loomis will be probably be flexing during the bye week about how awesome the move to trade up for Olave was. Guess what, sweetie? Justin Jefferson and Addison are probably both better than Olave right now and going forward, and the Vikings drafted them both straight up. Loomis has created a culture where being right and holding onto your hubris is more important than winning games. We are more than happy to have a collection of albatrosses hanging around our neck rather than cut bait and move on when the time is right. Tyrann was always an overachiever and I know we all love him, but he just can't cut it anymore. We are basically playing 10 on 11 out there. The bone-head face mask was the final straw for me. We need a younger player with more range in there. Let's quit worrying about the fans being bummed. Because let's face it the Vikings stadium is getting louder by the week and sound like what the Superdome used to. Penning is a bust and we should have cut him weeks ago. Quit trying to save face and do something useful with the roster spot. His ship has sailed. Any other capable front office including the Vikings would've already made the move by now. You look at an org like the Vikings. They moved on from Dalvin Cook. Also Xavier Rhodes a few years back. They fired a coach in Mike Zimmer who was a far better coach than Dennis Allen will ever be and moved on to a new young coach when the team was starting to stagnate. What was the last truly tough man-up decision the Saints brass have made? I might have to go all the way back to cutting Adrian Peterson when Kamara was emerging. Pretty sad, and it also shows how Payton helped save us from some of Loomis' blind spots. We have a coach who is a glorified associate youth pastor, yet we'll hang onto him because Loomis is so glad he's sitting at .500 doing nominally better than Allen's Raiders tenure. He's lost the locker room and that's why the team is sleepwalking during the first half of football games. We also have a low-tier offensive assistant cosplaying as an offensive coordinator, and we all know how that's working out. And then there's the QB situation: - Carr isn't smart or talented enough to execute the high-percentage ball-control offense Brees or others have. Period. - Winston has the arm talent and could prosper in a more wide-open offensive system, but our mental midget of an offensive coordinator makes that endeavor impossible. - Hill is the X-Factor and it would be risky, but it might be the one way out of this mess as he has been on a roll this season. But as we know by now neither Loomis or Allen would be able to find their balls and make that kind of a change. End rant and efff this bye week. |

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
I’ve been wanting Loomis gone for years but we don’t have the nuts to move on from him. So what needs to be done is “promote” him, hire a real GM, and don’t let someone else snatch up Ben Johnson before we do.
Now with that said, thankfully Arthur Smith is a horrible coach and the Falcons suck too. I didn’t have any expectations coming into the game so I’m not even mad about losing. Just hoping for the best. Get to the playoffs and hopefully we can pull a monkey out our ass somehow. |

We have the most vanilla offense in the history of football based on the time period it's being used in.

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
Same ol', Same ol'...
Playing from behind early. DA stubbornly sticking with 4 man pressure. Failing to spy a mobile QB and keep him honest. Getting the D off the field on 3rd Down. Getting our QB's to know it's OK to move the chains on 3rd down. PC once again falling back on highly predictable vanilla playcalling. (Suggest he get his ass off the sideline and in the booth because he's obviously not seeing the defenses to exploit weaknesses!) Boom or Bust passing. Deep routes or Check downs but zero crossing patterns... again. Regressing once again to fail to use Taysom situationally. Where in the Blue HELL is Jimmy Graham? Ever hear a different song, but it's the same old tune? That's what 5-5 in 2023 sounds like in the Big Easy. |

I'm still amazed we are at the top of the NFC South!
Not for much longer if we carry on playing like that! Luckily, the other teams in our division are awful too! Lol! |
Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
I stopped paying attention to that game before half time for my own sanity. And I still have a hangover. It was downright pathetic. I see Jameis went in and the Saints mounted a valiant comeback to get everyone’s hopes up just to piss it all away again.
Ugh. I know the days are long gone but I sure do miss Drew Brees and a competitive and innovative coaching staff. |
Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
Based on what I see on defense last several weeks vs mobile QBs (Minshew, Stroud, Trevor L & Dobbs, I saw the need for another pass rusher before the trade deadline.
The lack of consistent pass rush is hurting this team. Cam is well past his prime and Granderson needs more help. Saints have ranked last or near the bottom (pass rush win rate) for 2 seasons now. This is one of the small reasons why back up QBs and rookies (Bagent, Dobbs) have moved the chains on us in critical moments. I listen to NFL experts and a few here keep referring to this defense is "elite" but "elite" defenses don't wait until 2nd half of every game. Against .500 teams, you don't have the luxury of digging yourself out of a large deficit and expect the offense to pick you up in the 3rd/4th quarters. Especially when you have an inept OC calling plays. Coaching & decision making is just bad in New Orleans. |

Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
Against a quality opponent, Taysom Hill has 1 carry. Wait, what?
Taysom Hill. A difference maker. A spark. A proven guy. I have to wonder what Pete Carmichael is doing at film study & during practice. And you wonder why this team is struggling offensively. |
Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
I kept wondering why AT Perry was out there when Taysom, Olave, Sheed, Thomas, and Jimmy were on the sideline.
Edit: OK. Jimmy was a healthy scratch....but still, I hope you get my point. Allen pulls playmakers hoping to confuse the defense. No wonder we have a hard time finding continuity. |
Re: OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SAINTS LOSS TO VIKINGS (Halftime Edition)
Gentlemen... The sky is not falling. lol
We're still in it. We're talented. Trouble is penalties. O line woes - though much better than earlier in the season. Team CAPTAINS and teammates need to hold EACH OTHER accountable. without penalties its a different game. That being said.... Hill didn't get ONE QB play after Winston came in. Freaking STUPID CAN WE FINALLY BE DONE WITH WINSTON????? I would have rather seen the rookie. Coaches made some errors sure. My 2cents, MUCH of this should fall on the Players though. ALSO, maybe I'm the last guy standing but lets give them the rest of the year before we start demanding firings. I wasn't sure about Dennis Allen but he hasn't overly disapointed. As far as BLAMING play calling... a lot of good drives have ended in penalties or sacks (some of which can be blamed on Carr holding the ball too long). IF the TEAM MATES can hold together and the Coaches don't let the OUTSIDE NOISE mess with them - I'm optimistic we do very well the rest of the year with Carr or Hill as QB and barring any major injuries. Maybe this is die hard. Guess we'll see. |

I wish I had your optimism bro. But I just haven’t seen anything to give me any confidence in this team getting anywhere close to its potential. That said, I feel like this same team would be much better with another head coach and OC. |
