Michael Thomas deletes account after criticism for insensitive comment about Derek Carr’s injury

Thomas seemingly criticized Derek Carr as the team trailed by 21 at the end of the first quarter. The wide receiver was miffed about the Saints quarterback failing to see a wide-open A.T. Perry during a play. Thomas later deleted his twitter account.

Saints organization is a mess.

I am not sure of the exact context of those tweets, but if they are what they appear then MT will likely never play another down in a Saints uniform.

Thanks for playing. Too bad he's injured all the time. Maybe he would see life differently if he was healthy. Oh well....Buh bye!

Re: Michael Thomas deletes account after criticism for insensitive comment about Derek Carr’s injury

Only thing MT did wrong was he posted what most of us fans have been saying all year. Can’t do that to a teammate.
AK said the same thing without actually saying it.
MT needs to take a lesson from his RB.

Why delete them seriously?

It is kind of a dick move. Especially since he has spent most of the last few seasons just watching.

While he may have spoke the truth, there’s just things you don’t share on social media. No different than airing out your trash about work, can’t do it. No matter how truthful it is.

Talented player, but social media definitely has taken a chunk of his brain.

Re: Michael Thomas deletes account after criticism for insensitive comment about Derek Carr’s injury

Michael Thomas being a bad teammate does not cost the Saints $150 Million. Derek Carr being a bad QB and Mickey Loomis being a bad GM do. Most players on the team know Thomas is right, so any actions against MT will backfire and split the team. As for MT moving on next season, that made sense anyway. I expect AK will too. Dennis Allen is building a roster of 'glass half full, don't care if we lose' weaklings in the model of himself. Carr is a perfect fit as long as DA is here.

While other teams are playing CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL, our team is becoming a social media soap opera, like last year, only suckier.

We AINT hating, we’re just tired of waiting.

Like Moscona said earlier ... "no one fears the baby sitter".

This is the result when you have a substitute teacher in charge.

He's destroying a positive culture in less than 2 seasons.

He has had a little help though.......mostly because of bad coaching hires. Oh, and a really crappy leadership style.

Re: Michael Thomas deletes account after criticism for insensitive comment about Derek Carr’s injury

I've been thinking a bit more about this. Thomas' comments aren't coming in a vacuum.

Thomas made some of his own mistakes regarding Ankle-gate, but I'm convinced the front office made just as many and probably more over the previous years. So Mike tries to put it behind him, become a better teammate and leader, only in recent weeks to see Carr's inaccuracy directly lead to injury to himself, Shaheed and Olave in a very short timeframe. And Carr is untouchable and protected by the coaches and FO.

Why would he fear retribution? The organization has not made one major change all season. They can't even cut their bust draft pick Penning. Not a fan of doing things via Twitter, but putting myself in Mike's shoes I can certainly see where the apathy is coming from.

Amazing how at this point in the season, the most exciting thing we get to read about is Michael Thomas’ Tweets.

FKN PATHETIC.

MT is free to voice his opinion. No question he was calling Carr out for repeated failures...

Was it the "right thing to do"? Of course not!

Unfortunately just another indication of Dennis Allen, along with Derek Carr losing more players' respect.

I will say - if you lob accusations to a man on social media that leads to you taking heat, deleting your account speaks volumes about your character.

When in the public, and making money off that said public/fans, take the heat along with the praises. Be a man and be accountable, and lead. Those that rise above and succeed and continue to succeed needn't delete any social media.

You have to fire the substitute teacher.

The locker room is lost. How many different ways does Kamara have to tell (coaching) it to the media every week?

Hire a YOUNG, hungry, innovative head coach. You’re gonna need a talented QB, so draft one. Derek Carr will never be “it”. Merely a 2 year bridge.

Take your lumps in 2024 because the NFC south will be terrible next year.

Make the moves and be ready to compete in 2025.

Sadly, we’re going to be watching OTHER TEAMS play championship football, or at least, decent, well coached and inspired football through this holiday season (again), and possibly deep into the future, while our team does a train wreck in slow motion.

What an expensive way to go from cleats to tweets to deletes.
The rest of us have to work for a living, and watch other teams play real football on the weekend.

Re: Michael Thomas deletes account after criticism for insensitive comment about Derek Carr’s injury

I started this post to provide yet another example of why the franchise needs a new head coach.

When Thomas is willing and bold enough to "tweet" to some reporters tweet, basically co-signing calling out Carr & to a certain extent Olave ... huge problem.

Stuff like this should remain in house & not to the public.

All this says in my eyes is that he has 0 lack of fear of consequences. Why ? Because the Saints have a substitute trying to lead the class.

Most players won't say it, but they don't respect Mr. Allen as an authority figure. Hence the name, substitute teacher.

Anyhow, I'm on to Carolina.

Re: Michael Thomas deletes account after criticism for insensitive comment about Derek Carr’s injury

I stopped liking Thomas when he threw Drew under the bus! You don't call out differences of opinion of that scale on social media. His uncle, Keyshawn Johnson, also turned out to be a diva. Classless move!

BakoSaint 01-05-2024 08:57 PM

Re: Michael Thomas deletes account after criticism for insensitive comment about Derek Carr’s injury

2023 Derek Carr before being called out by Michael Thomas: 12 games, 5-7 record, QB rating 5 of 12 games 100+, 3 games 80-100, 4 games under 80.

2023 Derek Carr after being called out by Michael Thomas: 4 games, 3-1 record, QB rating 3 of 4 games 100+, 1 game 80-100, 0 games under 80.

Conclusion: Michael Thomas had every right to call out Derek Carr, Carr's performance needed to improve, telling him so was constructive criticism, and Carr should thank Michael Thomas for helping him to be better.

It's all fine and good to call MT13 classless and say it was inappropriate and he should keep criticism in house, but the numbers speak for themselves. Blowing pixie dust up Carr's ass and telling him he could fly was not working. Calling him out worked. Maybe others should try it when he struggles and when others struggle. Olave is playing better too.
