Observations from the Saints' Surprise Win vs Panthers

Don't get too excited... it was the Panties after all. McCoy and DC4 had a heated argument during the game. The defense contributed. Good to see Jackson get a defensive TD. DC4 magically clears concussion protocol to be able to play... dang it. We coulda had "Pretty Boy" or "Getsome" Taysom at the helm. It's going to continue to be a clusterfrick the rest of the year. Glad we got a win, but the outlook isn't too promising.

OTHO, Kamara shows up in his cool Supra NASCAR wheels to the Dome. :bng:

My 2 cents on this...

I don't like the throwback uniforms.

Carolina is a bad football team.

Re: Observations from the Saints' Surprise Win vs Panthers

Derek Carr, once again, struggled against another NFL defense.

In 13 weeks, I've not once felt confident about him stringing together a successful game.

Zero, I mean zero pocket presence.

Can't read coverage, checks down way too early, doesnt navigate pocket at all and his stands still and gets hit.

The fact that the cameras didn't even catch his interception was amusing, considering they were too busy showing his awful decision making on the previous play.

I honestly don't think Dennis Allen would draft Jayden Daniels, because that would force him to admit that signing Carr was a mistake. Which DA doesn't have the balls to do.

Now all we'll hear from Loomis is "how good the offense is" because Carr managed to get more than 37 yards passing with 4 minutes remaining.

when there is nothing to play for; aka no pressure... Saints seemed to play more relaxed and just enjoyed the GAME; Good Win and take it in.... but then again, beating a 1-11 opponent ...isn't saying much. Maybe shoulda taken the loss and get a better draft slot for rebuilding. :beatnik:

flag football days... we had a play called the "dead roach" offense snaps the ball and the entire offense falls on their back and kick their legs and arms up like a dying cockroach.... used it when we kicked the other team's ass. the losing team got pissed off and we were penalized, for some reason. good stuff.:greendevil: Saints ought to incorporate it.... hah! :beatnik:

Couldn't watch the game.

Saw some highlights. Saw more lowlights.

I was flying back from vacation so I only caught the final score.

So, am I to assume that Loomis, Allen and Co. have received a Vote of Confidence from Ma Benson?

Guess all things considering the Saints are in a better spot than Carolina. They have paid through the nose to draft Bryce Young, and to me he looks like a strong candidate to earn a bust label. At least the Saints didn't give up draft picks for our bust QB.

Being serious, is there really anything new? The Saints struggled again, won an ugly game against the worst team in the NFL. I guess the positive is no TDs given up, and did decent in the red zone despite not being able to move the ball all afternoon. If the Saints are to make a serious playoff run, Jimmy Graham needs to be relied on heavily.

Listening to a bit of Underhill this morning, it sounds as if the dysfunction continues.

Heard we ran the ball well to start and then puked in the Red Zone (missed FG) but recovered to run it 5 straight times in the RZ later (TD)

Bryce isn't very good
Bryce's WR's can't catch
We did what we were supposed to do against a 1-11 team.
Still giving up too many rushing yards
Ugly win
Grade C+

Quick peek at the final box score, Panthers had better stats.

It's a good thing we were playing a 1-11 team.

Looking ahead to 2024 ...

Go get you a kicker. Blake Grupe (long term) isn't the answer.

Missing chip shot FGs, naw you get cut. Unacceptable.

I didn't watch the game, but it sure seemed like a goofy one.

In a 28-6 win, the Panthers had about 100 more yards of offense than we did, and by and large it wasn't a situation where they were playing from way behind. If you take out AT Perry's long catch, they'd have close to double our yardage. And yes I know yards can be misleading, but it still can be indicative of problems.

Turnovers have a way to skew stats like that. We need more of those types of turnovers.

What?! Not sure what game you were watching. Bryce Young couldn't come close to his receivers. He finished the game with a 48.0 passer rating. Carr had a very respectable 88.5 rating. They each had one turnover. Young was sacked four times. Carr once. Young was 13 for 36 (36.1%) passing. Carr was 18 for 26 (69.2%). Carr had two passing TD's. Young had zero. Not only was Young outplayed by Carr, but he was outplayed by a huge margin. Not even close. Several of the few Panthers' fans in attendance were booing Young in the 4th quarter.

Bryce didn’t offer a performance worthy of booing. Young being allowed to escape the pocket continued keep multiple drives alive.
Carr has always put up MVP type numbers, while playing like garbage.
There was a stretch in the game where benching Carr wasn’t totally out of the question.

In favor of whom? Winston came in last week and lost the game for us with his inability to complete a pass to open receivers.

Amazing it only took these substitute teachers that long to figure it out. Kinda feel bad for Zach.

I guess the next light bulb will come on that if you use a 6'7 Jimmy G in the redzone, he might be able to out jump everyone and score TDs .

Just wow.

You just made a great point. Saints are paying TWO of the wrong Quarterbacks!!

Meanwhile backups around the league are winning consecutive games.

Kudos to our organization! Pollyanna would approve.

Those backups are also being equipped with playcalling and play design beyond the comprehension limits of a five-year-old.

Was this really a PC decision not to play Jimmy, or was it ultimately DA's call? I haven't seen anything to indicate either.
