Re: Nick Underhill expects the Saints to hire a new offensive coordinator in 2024
With the Washington position filled by Quinn and all teams now having head coaches ...
It makes me wonder if the OC/Playcaller is actually a bit more important than the head coach himself when the HC is a defensive coach/troop leader. Thinking Houston and Detroit specifically, and in particular if Bienemy stays with Commanders. I'm starting to believe it - OC > HC! That's why this OC hire is paramount for the Saints. Defensive talent is awesome in the NFL. Generally speaking, I think it's harder to screw up the defensive playcalling. That said, an adept DC is still valuable. Offensive playcalling on the other hand - it's a huge variance between being behind the times and stale vs those innovating at the McVay/Reid/Ben Johnson level. I'm fairly convinced the OC/playcaller is the bigger difference-maker of the two now. And also ... we probably could've had Vrabel if we had just decided to bid adios to DA ![]() |
