Some top candidates may only interview in order to create leverage so that the team they really want to join offers them a better contract or makes an offer quicker. I don't think we are the top destination with a potentially lame duck coach, poor oline, a salary cap situation that means we cannot get rid of existing veterans who don't fit the hires system or are discontent, less money to spend in free agency than any other team, and missing several draft picks.

However, we may not be the worst situation, with at least an average QB, some talented weapons, and low expectations. Mike McCarthy made it work as OC under Jim Haslett, although DA is probably a slightly worse head coach than Haslett.

I think we will eventually lure a second tier candidate who wants to bet on themselves or an experienced hire with a mediocre track record looking for another shot. If worst comes to worst we will hire the internal candidate but that is a loss. Going with an internal candidate when your problem is your system is antiguated and other teams are innovating quickly is a cop out. If you want the best chance for a fix you have to go with someone from the outside.

Tampa has an OC opening now they'll need to fill. Harbaugh might need bodies for his staff in SD. Atlanta likely will soon as well considering who they hire for HC. Not saying we have to rush it, but the reality is the demand is going upward and the supply will be going downward.

It makes sense that if we are nobodies first choice, and fall somewhere middle to late on the list of openings, we have wait for some of the chips to fall. I would rather not compromise too much and rush to the candidate with no other prospects. We got Sean Payton by being patient. We got Dennis Allen by rushing it.

ADD in an OLD roster.

Demario is 35, Cam J is 34 (showing noticable signs of decline), Ramz is 29 & seriously INJURED, Kamara (RB) is 28, Taysom Hill 33 ...

These are your BEST players on the team and the Saints are MISSING on draft picks as of late. Not a good combo.

2024 ... gotta start hitting on these draft picks.
