Packers game and reflections on a very tough season

I want to start by saying, for self indulgence, that this was a very tough season for me…and it had little to do with the team’s record. With my father dying in September, I ended up having to shut myself away, and did not watch any of the games after about week 7. I just couldn’t do it. Win or lose, I felt empty without my Dad there to celebrate/mourn with.

But my Father’s passing has brought my oldest brother and I closer. So some good has come. I mentioned to him that the Green Bay game was the key to the downfall of the season. we had a 17 to 0 lead. Then our quarterback gets crushed and injured. We miss a makeable field goal that could’ve given us a win.

Instead we lose a heartbreaker and have our starting QB very limited. That sent us into a tailspin that never righted itself until Carr got somewhat healthy. I don’t see that the team ever quit playing hard nor quit on DA. That’s not saying I want DA as the coach going forward. Just food for thought.

You think you know, but you don’t know...and you never will! Coach Jim Mora

Sorry for your loss. I remember in 2008 when my brother passed away (he was a Falcons fan) and it pretty much defined that whole season for me when I was wearing his Vick Falcons jersey under my Saints jersey.

Re: Packers game and reflections on a very tough season

Sorry to hear about that Boston.

Family are extremely important, especially at the darkest of times so I'm glad you and your brother have been able to grow closer.

As you say, this was a tough season. I haven't suffered any family passing, but my wife and I separated in November after 8 years together, which left everyday feeling pretty empty tbh.

It brought to light that I probably hadn't seen my family as much as I should have done recently and I've been spending a lot more time with them.

Packers game wise, yeah, I knew from the moment we lost that game that it'd be the one that screwed us over.

It was unfortunately the perfect storm.

Up 17-0, offense begins to get conservative and tries running the ball nearly every down.
Defense on the field too much.
QB gets injured.
Defense collapses entirely (Demario looked bad in that game especially)
Rookie Kicker nerves miss the go ahead FG.

I will say however, even if Grupe made that FG, there was over 1 min on the clock. Our D was not stopping them at all. Packers would have won regardless.

Deep Condolences on the loss of your Father.

Don’t worry about the Saints. It’s just a game.
