Re: Official 2024 Saints Draft Discussion

I am torn on the draft. I think we need oline more than pass rush. We have been horrible drafting pass rush. Oline is needed for our offense to reach its full potential, or at times for it even to function. Pass rush is needed for our defense to reach its full potential. But while oline would allow us to see Carr's best and pass rush would allow us to see our secondaries best, I have this feeling that our secondary's best could be more exciting than Carr's best. Probably either way we are a .500 type team at best if we hit on the pick and our aging players don't decline too badly, but perhaps if we had a great pass rush there is a small sliver of chance we could have a really special defense that could be the best in the league. I think it is impossible to have the best offense in the league with Carr. But on the other hand, oline could give us more stability to not get our QB killed when we face real elite defenses, and could be a better building block for the next 5 years. I don't know what is the right answer, perhaps best trenches player available.

So, what position gets priority for the #14 pick this year guys? Is there an edge rusher DE or OLB? Or is Offense the priority in the 1st round?

I think most of us think the priority is offensive line. I'm sure Kubiak will have some input, but Ireland is likely holding most of the cards. I'm just not sure an immediate impact lineman is going to be left at #14. I've heard as many as seven tackles could go in the first, but how many of those will be hitting the field soon is the question. Once again, we're remaining in a win now mode so that will probably be a big factor.

In other words, I have no clue and will anxiously await the actual draft.

Re: Official 2024 Saints Draft Discussion

DE, OL, WR, QB (Carr will never win big games).
Saints were near the bottom half in pass rush efficiency in 2023.

Dak, Mahomes, Hebert, Hurts, Love, Highland Park are all on the schedule and all will slice you up if they have time. Can’t expect the secondary to cover forever.

DE & OL are 1a & 1b for me in the upcoming draft.

Can OL be addressed in the 2nd round?

From what I have heard and read OL is deep in potential, but not in readiness. The state of the college game pretty much dictates that they are not being developed whether or not they have the ability.

It can be addressed in any round. Jahri Evans was drafted in the fourth and Carl nicks in the fith and contributed immediately in their rookie season.
The draft is pretty much a crap shoot.
That being said, if your drafted in the first or second round, I expect an impact immediately or within a few games. I know it’s not a guarantee , just my expectations

Yes, of course.

See Erik McCoy. A quality NFL starter.

And started in all 16 games as a rookie .
