Re: MORE MUSINGS FROM THE NEGATIVE
Sometimes when you trade 5 draft picks to move up for 1 pick, you end up with worse depth. And when you whiff on that 1 pick, you end up with even less. See Trevor Penning. See Marcus Davenport. A lot of people remarked on how amazing it was that the 49ers were able to overcome whiffing on Trey Lance. But man if they hadn't that's where you get better backups for their players who were hurt like Greenlaw and also the snaps Deebo and Kittle missed.

It's amazing how many players we have passed on to give those multiple picks to another team for one player. It's not like we are one player away from a championship anymore but we aren't going through a rebuild either.
We have big needs on both lines, so I don't see us trading back from 14 when there should be several players available for us to pick BPA from a position of need. It would be good to trade back a few spots and pick up another pick but I wouldn't count on it. There would have to be quite a few players evenly rated on our big board for us to consider doing that. Loomis has made at least one draft-day trade the last 15 out of 16 years. Twenty straight draft-day trades have been made to move up for a particular player. I think Loomis traded back once to acquire draft picks for Payton to stock the shelves when he came on board. We have to find a second and third round pick this year. We've got a lot of holes to fill. |
