4:51 PM - MARCH 19, 2024 SAINTS HAVE INJURY PROTECTIONS IN CHASE YOUNG'S CONTRACT Chase Young's contract was initially reported to be fully guaranteed. That doesn't seem to be the full story, though. I'm told the team has some injury provisions in the contract that will protect them if he misses extensive time. This is important because Young is undergoing neck surgery to repair an injury that occurred last preseason. We'll see the language of those clauses soon enough. |

Re: Chase Young to undergo neck procedure
No matter how you look at it, it’s still a risk and none of us know what the outcome will be….even the Saints. People’s concerns are valid. Hoping things will go smoothly with the surgery and recovery. Also hoping that it doesn’t get re-injured or aggravated through the season.

Re: Chase Young to undergo neck procedure
Probably related to this
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/c...ry-per-report/ Washington Commanders pass rusher Chase Young was listed as questionable to suit up in the 2023 season opener against the Arizona Cardinals due to a neck injury, but on Saturday, the team downgraded Young to out. What's worse is that a new report indicates the former No. 2 overall pick could miss more than just this one game. Per The Athletic, Young's neck injury could cause him to miss additional games. He suffered a stinger in the preseason opener vs. the Cleveland Browns, and was reportedly not given clearance for game contact during a Friday check-up. The Athletic reports that doctors have a plan to gradually increase contact during practice for Young, and that he could return Week 3 vs. the Buffalo Bills. Young told reporters on Wednesday that he believed he would be able to suit up in Week 1, but that he was waiting on approval from doctors. |

Again, this is why I am skeptical of the narrative that Cam's decline is based on injury and we can expect him to bounce back this year. Usually when players have a major decline one year at that age they continue to decline the next year, and usually when they have a minor injury at that age they have a minor or worse injury the next year, but if Cam held steady but stayed injury free, we would expect 3.5 sacks. Cam having surgery to correct an injury that he was already struggling on pace for 3.5 sacks before, and the Saints making their biggest free agent move on a risky player to fill in for Cam, those are both bad news for Cam's status.
