We’ll take the best DT defensive player! I’m good with that!

LOL…probably the 3rd best DT.

Re: New Orleans Saints Draft Round 1 - 2024

I am ok with OT, DL, or trading back. Glad Bowers is out of the picture. As long as we dont trade the 2025 1st.

OT is the best bet if we like the player, but I am not a scout.

Fuaga is a good pick.

Probably Ramz replacement.

Now all we need to do is not trade away our 2025 1st round pick.

Round 1

NFL Comparison
Taylor Decker

Overview
Beefy right tackle capable of playing at a high level despite his lack of ideal pad level and lower-body bend. Fuaga plays with a fairly aggressive disposition. He’s a one-pop blocker who struggles to clinch into his run blocks and is therefore forced to work overtime to sustain and finish. The pass protection technique is outstanding, and he possesses the athleticism to mirror and match edge-to-edge rush movements. Fuaga’s hand work is exceptional in pass pro and will need to remain so, because of his lack of desired range for recovering when beaten. A team could slide him to guard to improve its interior protection, but he’s best-suited at right tackle, where he should become a good starter.

Strengths
Glides into pass sets with controlled slides, ready hands and quiet upper body.
Throws stiff right-left combinations, creating disruption for rusher.
Hands are highly active through the rush, helping to keep opponent centered.
Mirrors with fluidity, with little to no stall when changing direction.
Flashes ability to dig in with leveraged hand strikes at point of attack.
Gathers and adjusts his track to make his blocks in space.
Smooth and accurate when working from block to block.

Weaknesses
Pops up tall off the snap and gets behind in back-side cutoffs.
On first contact, tends to hit and bounce rather than hit and stick.
His run blocking is much less organized and technical than his pass blocking.
Doesn’t have the range in pass sets to succeed when tardy out of his stance.
Occasional issues allowing weight to slide too far out on outside foot.
Washington had some success beating his outside hand and trimming the edge.
Sources Tell Us

“I see him as a very good starting guard. I think you might need to help him against edge speed if he stays at tackle.” - NFC West Coast scout

Possibly unpopular opinion. In the unlikely event that Ram is able to play this season, given that RT is Fuaga's natural position, you move Ram to LT not Fuaga. Ram's days are numbered with his knee regardless, so better to mess up Ram's confidence and development with a move to an unnatural position, not Fuaga's. Ram ain't going to be comfortable anyway.

Re: New Orleans Saints Draft Round 1 - 2024

Pick made sense, no point trying to be clever

Get this lad in to play RT and if long term he needs to move inside to guard then move him inside. Can't see any of the second group being left by the time we pick at 45. But i would happily see Guard or Tackle again in R2. Then sit back and just catch up the rest off tv.

Taliese Fuaga is a great pick here. Big dude with good feet. I feel he will start day one no matter who is healthy.

And only 22 years of age.

I believe Fuaga will transition well to the NFl.

20 picks and still no LB or DB taken. This is the strangest draft in my lifetime.

My favorite metric on him: ZERO sacks allowed in 25 starts over 2 years! I am ecstatic over this pick!

He's been my OL crush since the combine!

Would love to have the picks to move up for one of these falling CB but wouldn't want to be giving away next years picks as if everything doesn't fall perfect they could be really high picks and this teams needs a massive youth injection from the next few drafts

On a side note: Falcons once again do a head scratcher and pick Penix at 8.

This after signing Cousins to a 4 year $180 million contract.

I heard someone say that their Draft pick was like buying a dozen eggs. Then instead of buying bacon... they buy more eggs!!! LOL

Falcons got a QB of the future. I think he’s gonna give us hell for six to ten years.

Happy with our pick. Wanted Olu but it is what it is.

Like what the Chargers did.

Like what the Vikings did even though I don’t like JJ.

I think the problem is that if the Falcons got their QB of the future, why did they just pay $180 million for a lame duck QB??? Would the Saints have a ring if immediately after signing Brees, they drafted Matt Leinart too instead of giving Brees a weapon in Reggie Bush? Would the Bucs have a ring if immediately after signing Brady, instead of using their 1st round pick on Tristan Wirfs, they drafted Jordan Love? Sure, Love would be great for the future, but they probably dont win it all in 2020 without Wirfs. How many rings did the Packers win with Favre after drafting Rodgers, or with Rodgers after drafting Love? How many rings did the Ravens win with Flacco after drafting Jackson, the Eagles with Wentz after drafting Hurts, or the Chiefs with Smith after drafting Mahomes. The fact is, once you draft a 1st round QB, you give up on winning it all with your veterans starter. Giving up on Cousins before he plays a snap after giving him $180 million is a financial disaster, and for all we know if they got a Wirfs or Reggie instead and Cousins plays well, maybe they could have won it all.
