Thats a satisfactory pick . We really need to shore up the RT position with the news about Ram not sounding good lately.

Would the Bucs have a ring if immediately after signing Brady, instead of using their 1st round pick on Tristan Wirfs, they drafted Jordan Love? Sure, Love would be great for the future, but they probably dont win it all in 2020 without Wirfs. How many rings did the Packers win with Favre after drafting Rodgers, or with Rodgers after drafting Love? How many rings did the Ravens win with Flacco after drafting Jackson, the Eagles with Wentz after drafting Hurts, or the Chiefs with Smith after drafting Mahomes. The fact is, once you draft a 1st round QB, you give up on winning it all with your veterans starter. Giving up on Cousins before he plays a snap after giving him $180 million is a financial disaster, and for all we know if they got a Wirfs or Reggie instead and Cousins plays well, maybe they could have won it all.

Not sure it really matters. Atlanta isn’t winning a Super Bowl with or without Kirk Cousins. Kirk isn’t Brady. Kirk is Dak Prescott. I think they were sold on him being the QB then the head coach saw something he really liked in Pennix. And as far as financial disasters are concerned, they never really seem to matter much if you ask me. This could have been their plan all along. Pay a veteran for four years and go the Aaron Rodger’s route with a rookie QB.

So what are we looking at for days 2

T'Vondre Sweat looks a interesting pick for me. Pretty boring as he isn't going to appear on a stat sheet but 6'4.5 and nearly 370lbs good luck moving him in the run game, and a decent size to block passing lanes

The ready now tackles look done, someone like Kiran Amegadjie gets talked about as a future starter

Maybe a guard like Cooper Beebe if they traded back

Tyler Nubin

I’d consider DT, DE or possibly a WR (Coleman) on day 2.

How old is Pennix again?

23. Evidently we tried to trade up for him. Atlanta playing keep away. We missed out.

Re: New Orleans Saints Draft Round 1 - 2024

Can't complain about this pick. We had a big hole(s) on our OL and this addressed a very big need. I wouldn't hate if if we snagged another lineman in the second round but I'd prefer adding to our front seven on defense with our second pick. I'd also be very interested in trading down here.

Some notable and interesting picks:

Ravens with Verse seems like a match made in heaven. Turner as a Danielle Hunter replacement was a great pick as well. Even with his injuries, Fautanu is a prototypical Steelers OG mauler. Trevor Lawerence will enjoy having Thomas Jr. as an added weapon.

And while I'm not a Bo Nix guy especially being taken that high, scheme wise, Captain Checkdown fits Payton's offense very well. It's a reach that could possibly work out. Let's see what kind of QB guru Payton actually is.

Adonai Mitchell - Texas
WR NFL comparison - George Pickens

Saints could use another big body WR.

Plenty of talent still available in range for round 2.

Cooper DeJean move to Safety?
T Sweat space eater?
Malachi Corley running similar to Deebo Samuel?

Round 3-4
Austin Booker DE, Kansas
Christian Hayes G, UConn

Dennis Allen is hard to listen to. His conversation with Fuaga was full on cringe.
I love this team. Love the pick. They need to find a real dude to do the talking. Let Allen do the scheming and gameplay and have someone else do the talking.

Yep - the Saints were definitely interested in drafting Pennix.

I'm not mad at this pick. The guy is a monster run blocker. I don't see a lot of pass protection in his highlight package. Depending on how things shake out on the O line, can you imagine having him as tackle and bringing Penning in as the TE or extra blocker in short situations?

Re: New Orleans Saints Draft Round 1 - 2024

Blake Fisher - Notre Dame
OT

Huge guy, good handwork & very athletic.
Not as technically sound as Joe Alt but who is?

Can play guard or tackle.

Good option on Day 2

* Edit - Patrick Paul is still out there as well.

I could do another OL. Kris Jenkins intrigues me on the DL.

It looks like we found our replacement for Cam's energy and leadership. He seems like the kind of man that people gravitate to and want to be around.

We got a Polynesian to pound the opposition. Sweet!

DeJean at Safety is an A+ move. Not an elite man defender as a corner, but an elite man defender for a safety. Great in zone. Athletic. Great ball skills. Speed is excellent. Definitely wouldn’t mind.

Truth be told though…I think we need another OT. They won’t do that, but I think I would.

Kansas St Guard in Round 2 would be nice. Or the Texans NT.

I think if we were willing to move up in the first to take Penix, then we would have had an offensive lineman there we liked in the second round. So I think it's very much still on the board.

Give me Corley or Sweat

Round 3-4
Austin Booker DE, Kansas

Christian Hayes G, UConn

Let's go back to the O line and address our biggest weakness again with two rounds back to back

I think we'll use a 5th on a developmental LT.
Didn't we get Nicks and Bushrod in the 5th?

Evans and Bushrod in the 4th, Nicks in the 5th. Could do with cloning Evans and Nicks and Armstead. Wouldn't mind going into next season with Armstead-Nicks-McCoy-Evans-Fuaga

Draft rumors are always interesting, especially after all of the action. The things that almost happen are a sight to see, but one thing that did not happen was the Saints attempting to trade up in the Top-10 for Michael Penix Jr. Per a very reliable league source, Saints News Network was told, "It never happened."
Apparently not.

Saints trade a fifth-rounder (168) and sixth-rounder (190) to move up four spots from No. 45 to 41 to select Alabama CB Kool-Aid McKinstry.

More than likely this guy will be a difference maker.
