Doesn't even need to be Sunday. I say it every time I spot Saints gear walking by. More often than some would imagine up here in northwest Louisiana. The pastor even brought up the Saints during the sermon this morning, along with a little dig against the Cowpatties.

I’m focused on the interior defense … NOSE TACKLE. Stopping the run.

Losing (Denver) Malcom Roach to free agency is a big deal.

Run stopping has to improve & also getting off the field on 3rd downs.

Kamara holding out and an injury to Olave really could leave the Saints weaponless in the blink of an eye. Need a TE to step up. Defense is legit. Need a DT to step up.

I’d say the chances of Kamara holding out is less than zero. He missed one afternoon of the final day of minicamp. They’re going to get the details ironed out. And we have other weapons in addition to those two.

None of this will matter if that Oline doesn't improve.

Trevor Penning (per reports inconsistent at OTA's) ... I just don't know. Not sure if Saldiveri will be starting caliber guard and No Ryan Ramz :(. I like Fuaga but he's a rookie.

Training camp ... it's getting close.

I am not worried about Kamara holding out. He is older RB with declining stats, if he holds out my biggest worry is that its an early sign of CTE and my prayers go out to his family.

My big worry with Kamara is if the Saints buckle and give him a raise. He is already overpaid and any new contract should be less than Mixon got based on Kamara being older and less productive, but that would be a pay cut for Kamara, so I doubt he is holding out for a big pay cut. It would be insane to give a big pay raise contract to any RB Kamara's age who is not already putting up MVP caliber numbers, and very questionable even if he was putting up those numbers (just because the 49ers paid CMC does not mean they should have, maybe they just locked in Jets Leveon Bell).

No team benefits from losing its #1 WR. That the Saints would not benefit is extremely non-unique. However, there are many precedents for a young RB stepping in for a declining veteran and producing, even later round picks, undrafted free agents, and players who have bounced around the league. Even if the Saints lost Kamara and Olave, I would have more concerns about oline, QB, and head coach than WR and RB. The Patriots won several Super Bowls with receiver and running backs of the caliber of Shaheed, Perry, Miller, Williams, etc. But they had better oline, QB, and head coach by a mile.

Salient points.

From my understanding it is not the dollar amount that is holding things up on a Kamara extension. It's the duration. He supposedly wants to play his entire career in New Orleans, but his current contract effectively ends after the 2025 season and the final two years automatically void. He wants the security of extending the effective dates of the commitment closer to the end of his career.
