this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Ewers biggest challenge is getting done in the mighty SEC. He’s come a long way since his playing days here (Southlake Carroll High). Lots of quality teams on tap for UT....

Carr is returning under a better coach and throwing to receivers he has built trust with. I anticipate a much better game plan and a better performance from him this year.

It's great for the QB's. The market is what it is. But, $55 million for J. Love? C'mon man.

The NFL has ALL that money because it's fans are willing to pay those ASStronomical prices for memorabilia and tickets. A fool and his money....

Carr's contract was signed in 2023 before the cap went up 13.6% in 2024 so if we adjust for inflation, Carr's 37.5m/yr deal is more like 42m/yr. QB contracts are always going up and you have to sign a QB some year and there is no year that won't seem like a bargain compared to the next year, but not all QB contracts are a bargain, so you have to adjust for salary cap inflation.
So apples to apples, adjusting for inflation and the extension vs new contract structure, Love is making 46m vs Carr 42m. I don't think either is a bargain, but I would pay 10% more for Love in a heartbeat knowing Love is much younger, generally had better 2023 stats, and had those stats with much less experience, and therefore has much higher upside and potential longevity. However, if Love went on a podcast and bragged about how he gave Green Bay and brake and told them he wasn't worried about money and just wanted the team to have money to spare so they could win a championship, I would call that BS and kind of wonder if he was a sociopathic narcissist. |

Re: Derek Carr claims he gave Saints a Discount???
Player with the most to prove: Carr.
It might be strange to say that a 10-year veteran has a lot to prove, but this is a pivotal year for Carr, who needs to show the Saints made the right decision by signing him to a $150 million contract in 2023. Carr has admitted that the 2023 season was difficult in many ways. Injuries and public outbursts with teammates were part of the challenges in his debut season with New Orleans, a season that ended well offensively but had no postseason berth to show for it. Carr and the offense need to get off to a faster start than last year. That would go a long way toward winning over a frustrated fanbase that showed its displeasure both by selling tickets and booing the offense at home games. Source |
