Observations from Saints preseason loss to the 49ers

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If you hoped to see improvement in Week 2, you got it. Key players missing on both sides but I'd say this game as a whole was much better than week 1....

The question is, how well will Carr perform if the OL is just "decent". A couple of his throws were off the mark & behind Olave. This is what I mean when I say he has trouble "throwing receivers open".

Clowney, Parsons, Jalen Carter, Sweat, Chris Jones, Judon (twice) are real problems on the upcoming schedule.

But I digress ...
Point taken on elite pass rushers. However, an effective run game negates pass rush.

Carr has timing to work out. No question. Some of his throws last night were straight up poor.

I'm with you, there are legitimate threats to our offensive line. I'm encouraged by what I saw last night. Nowhere near a complete unit but a step forward.

2 more games to go before we find out for sure.

Less than 2 seconds protection on most dropbacks/shotgun regardless of the QB. SOOOO many blocking assignments whiffed, even on runs. D is legit. No coach can make up for the lack of talent/able bodies on the OL. I fear we will likely go through all 4 qbs this season.

I'm convinced the downfall of this team will be the O-line, not QB.
Carr is forced to throw too early on nearly every passing down.
Haener and Rattler were running for their lives more often than not.
Just my 2 cents

They have said it was nothing major and he should be fine.

Let's not forget we didn't have Fuaga in at left tackle.

So “O-Line seems to be an issue”… Haven’t we been saying that for some time now? Just like we knew that when Drew (GOD BLESS HIM) was in decline, we would have to do better than scoop up Raider Curbside Trash… and just like when Sean Payton was packing his bags, we would have to do more than give a nod to the absolute DUD that is Dennis Allen… but our front office AINT interested in winning championships. So here we are in another “Iffy at best” Season… This has become Saints Culture. Shame.

A rookie.

Who played three years at Right Tackle.

Now starting Left Tackle with a revolving door immediately to his right shoulder.

I'm not so optimistic there either...

This is the result of our getting spoiled with Brees whom could speed read defenses. His arm/body gave out toward the end. Of the three QBs we have, Haener is probably the fastest reader, then Rattler, then Carr.... then our former QB Jameis.

Carr tends to force it in sometimes ill advised, or he won't throw the WR open or in a manner that will allow the receiver to get lots of YAC. Haener did good in the first outing on a long ball, but missed a wide open throw a couple of times in game two. Rattler looked rattled in game 2.

This is the reality of the current Saints team.
