Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
Monday October 7th, 8:15pm EST
Saints 2-2 KC 4-0 Opening Line: Chiefs -5 https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/game.../saints-chiefs If there was ever a week to face KC, this may be it. Their depleted offense is not quite as potent and struggles in the red zone. Saints biggest concern will be it's O line holding up vs KC's blitzes. Derek Carr averages 1 INT in each game vs Steve Spagnuolo's defenses. Will the Saints defense remain strong? Will the offense be able to sustain drives and put points on the board? |
Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
Chiefs won't have Rice, Brown, Pacheco or Hellaire but you still have to man up to Patrick Mahomes and Kelce.
Saints just don't matchup well against TE's & Travis is elite. No pass rush and ranking 25th against the pass ... oh boy. |
Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
Dennis Allen and Joe Woods need to figure out a way to close out games.
He's 0-4 when leading in less than 2 minutes when playing man to man. Not good. |

I'd argue that the final drive is a perfect time to adjust when the offense is counting on what they've seen all game. I have zero clue how to coach football but just a thought. |

Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
We're expected to lose so we'll probably win. How? Why? Beats me but that's just how it works sometimes. In my head, Mahomes/Kelce will dominate and Chris Jones will take our lunch money.
23-17 Saints |

The fact that 99.9% of the "experts" expect us to lose, makes it possible. That is the beauty of the NFL. Any Given Sunday. |
Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
I love man coverage. I want someone responsible for every receiver. Not someone guarding turf and then reacting. The Saints have the players to do it. Lattimore, Adebo, Taylor, Kool-Aid and Mathieu can cover anyone in the NFL. In certain situations, it would have to be off-man though. Keep the guy in front of you. Come up and make the tackle. If the receiver is in front of you, you're also less likely to get flagged.

Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
We are about to get killed in (yet another) primetime spectacle highlighting everything that’s wrong with this organization, followed by more line lips flapping from Dennis Allen, who should have NEVER become our Head Coach, followed by resentment towards me, for saying it… again.
… followed by a few “bounce back” games, to keep Dennis Allen around for (yet another) year. |
Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
keeping it real. expecting a loss. :beatnik:

Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
I didn't watch Sunday because I didn't want the stress, which was higher than normal due to playing the Falcons.
I'll watch this one, but I hate night games. Win or lose I am too worked up to go to sleep and 04:30 comes awfully early. |
Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
Too lazy to open a new thread so I'll just post it here.

I think if we merely had a slightly above average O-line we'd be 4-0 right now. But oh well
|
Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
I believe if we aren't mentally retarded as we have been the last few weeks, we can be the first time to bring down the Chiefs. These last two weeks have been excruciating to watch.

Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
I personally like our chances of upsetting the Chiefs. A single play in the last two games cost us those two wins. First, a injury to our most important lineman on the third play of the game totally wrecked our game planning, and then a boneheaded attempt to field a punt on the very first touch of the next game gave the opponent half the "offense" they needed to squeak one out.
Mahomes has not been playing up to his normal level and the team has lost the best weapon at both WR and RB. Teams are basically taking Travis TayTay out of the game with double teams. Let's just see who we get back with the extra day of preparation. |

Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
As much as I feel like our preparation and performance should matter, it does seem like the Chiefs hold the cards especially at home and will dictate how this game will go. If they want to play with their food and keep it close they will. If they go back to their 2023 "bored" midseason phase, we could win it convincingly. If they come out angry and feisty like Taylor Swift on a breakup rebound we've got an uphill battle.

It’s only week 5 and I’m hoping for the Falcons to win tonight.
This is the result when we don’t take care of our own business. |

Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
Since Vandy defeated Alabama, we certainly could defeat the Chiefs, but I don't think we will. The Chiefs are 4-0. They have been winning close games against good teams. Andy Reid has had 8 days to prepare. They have an excellent defense. He and Spags know the Saints can only attack the middle of the field as fast as Hill's broken ribs can heal and Hill is out this week, and our oline can't pass protect unless we establish the run, so if they can stop the run we won't pass protect and won't have time for our deep threats to go deep. I think thats the formula to stoppin the Saints offense and I dont think the Chiefs are the defense that can't execute it.
Since the Chiefs can probably execute a defense to shut down or slow our offense, we will either be face with a blowout or a close game. If its a close game, why would Mahomes be the one QB we can stop on 3rd down or in the 4th quarter? Realistically we have a lot of toss up games this year, but this is the toughest remaining on the schedule, and I don't think we win it. |

Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
Yeah I’m not getting my hopes up on this one. The last two games I felt like the Saints had a good chance of winning.
This one is against a good team and we have a new center and our starting guard is out. So is Taysom. Of course I hope they win but I’m not counting on it. It looks more likely to be 2-3 than 3-2. |
Re: Week 5: Saints @ Chiefs
I try to be optimistic but at the same time I have to be realistic. It will take a miracle to win this game. However, miracles do happen and it is on a Monday night. So, you just never know what's going to happen.
