IMO, not to put the loss on any one player, but Honey Badger dropping the interception was the nail in the coffin for the Saints.

I believe that if he didn't score on the return, then the offense would have gotten into the endzone and it would have been a different game,

I think you have to look more closely at Loomis's actual words:

“Results matter. They do. But I think one of the things that good organizations do, is man, you look beyond the results. What’s the reasons for the result? How do you fix the reasons that keep you from winning?”

“It’s not always about the head coach. Sometimes it is. It’s about a lot of different variables. A lot of things are involved in winning.”

“So we’ll look at that when the time comes. But the time is not right now. We have a lot of games left.”

Nowhere in these quotes at least does Loomis say "Dennis Allen has my full support. Dennis Allen is doing a great job. Dennis Allen will be the Saints coach next year."

Saying that results matter and that you also need to look at the underlying reason for those results is true. You do have to do that. Using the phrase 'look beyond results' is an unfortunate gaffe, but in the context of also saying that results matter, it is clearly not meant to say to ignore results. Part of what he may be saying is that he needs to change his own strategy as a GM, which he appears to have done in the 2024 offseason by not trading up and not signing any blockbuster deals and starting to move on from some of the aging vets.

Sayings its not always about the head coach, but sometimes it is, is not much of an endorsement of DA. And again its very true.

Saying we will look at that when the time comes simply means the Saints may prefer to swing the axe in the 24 hours following the final game. There are advantages to waiting until the end of the season. We dont have great obvious interim coach options. Sometimes interim coaches get lucky on a few wins, get the permanent job without a competitive interview process, and waste years for an organization. Sometimes the process of selecting an interim coach leads to every assistant being interviewed, feeling slighted by not being hired, and losing assistants you would have liked to keep with the permanent coach. And if we lose out a lot this season, we get a better draft pick. Sometimes there is a psychological bounce with a new coach that helps the team win after they are fed up with the old coach. That bounce could be more valuable in a season that is not already mostly lost to a 2-5 record and 20 injuries.

If you look at Loomis's recent actions not his words, he does appear to be changing his ways in many respects. He may have gone all in on DA with words comparing him to legendary coaches but he did not go all in during the 2024 offseason with trading up in the draft, signing blockbuster free agents, giving veterans sweetheart extensions when past their prime to make Kamara and Lattimore Saints through their 40th birthdays, maxing out every last dollar of the cap, or drafting ridiculous raw project players. He completely changed from his previous course and made lots of practical conservative moves putting DA in a position of having to prove he was legendary by doing more with less, not less than other teams financially, but less than the blank check DA has had in the past. He even got a few veterans to take pay cuts. Loomis prepared for a rebuild. Then as the season came many fans demanded trades for Aiyuk, Backtiara, Adams, etc and Loomis never said no to these demands publicly and played along with whispers the Saints might make a big move but ultimately stayed on course for the ability to rebuild.

Through all of this I have doubted Loomis a great deal. I often expected him to pull the trigger on a franchise ruining trade to bring in Adams or trade up to draft Bowers or give Kamara a contract to match CMC that assumes his 30's will be just as productive as his 20's. But so far he has stayed the course with changing his ways. If you read between the lines, I don't see any endorsement of DA in 2025. And as long as 2025 is the big rebuild year to reset and clean up our cap for the future, 2025 does not matter a ton anyway. If Loomis retains Carr and DA for 2025 he is back to my **** list. But as long as Carr or DA is gone I am happy. If Carr is gone, the cap hit will make 2025 a rebuilding season, but Carr needs to be gone.

Ultimately, we don't want to become the Cleveland Browns. The Cleveland Browns became the Cleveland Browns by pinning their hopes on a mediocre QB's second act in Jeff Garcia and staying the course with a losing ex-Raiders coach in Hue Jackson.

Mickey Loomis is just yapping. He needs to step down.

Gayle Benson and Dennis Lauscha need a new plan of action.

The current assembled roster is terrible. Rebuild it. We need better scouts (Parenton/Powell) & Jeff Ireland need to be replaced.

Saints need new draft strategies, a better CAP strategy, analyzing RAS scores & rebuilding this old roster. Denver and Houston rebuilt theirs.

This team isn't going to be competitive for years.
