Re: Observations from Saints beating Dirty Birds
He's been out of college for over three years and those were his first ever NFL catches from what they said.

Penning has sure turned the corner! He's getting to be pretty rock solid on that RT! Can we put to bed the 'Bust' tag yet? Seems like he was a project with raw ability that just needed to be taught technique!

Re: Observations from Saints beating Dirty Birds
I seem to remember one or two around here that also had Ruiz labeled as a bust. I've said this before and I'll repeat, collegiate players, especially offensive linemen, are not being developed prior to making it to the NFL. NCAA rules limiting time with players to 20 hours per week (including gameday) have led to vanilla offensive and defensive schemes with little or no work on fundamentals. College coaches barely have time to get players ready to play, forget about getting them to play right.

I'll gladly eat a ton of crow if Penning strings together good performances. Admittedly, the Falcons pass rush is not their strong suit, so I think we need to see more, especially against a Browns team that has Myles Garrett.

I would like to see Penning used more to downblock while pulling Ruiz around to the outside. Penning is big and strong and could absolutely maul Grady Jarret if given a good angle. And Ruiz is athletic enough to get around and lead on the outside. |

Re: Observations from Saints beating Dirty Birds
Well if penning has turned a corner then that sets up well for us in the draft to fulfill D-line needs and wait a round or 2 for O-line help. Not saying we shouldn’t be drafting O-line just hoping maybe it’s not the necessity we may have thought it was a few months ago.
