I don’t have an issue with his age. I’m sure he’s more mature and responsible than many other athletes younger than he is. I don’t have a problem with the pick. It’s just where they picked him. Probably could’ve been had in the 3rd round.

A high 2nd round pick is a serious investment considering all the quality starters at various positions we passed on. He's going to need to build on the Louisville success and be our late-bloomer story ala Kurt Warner or Nick Foles, or our Carr/post-Carr QB follies will only continue.

So, a Lotta folks are saying we could have gotten him later, maybe that's true, but maybe not. I'll admit, I knew very little about him until a couple weeks ago. What I've learned since then is that some teams had him rated as their #1 QB on the board, ahead of Cam Ward. There was talk that he might go late 1st, and when the Giants traded back into the 1st to take Dart, I thought there was a chance that the Saints might try to do the same for Shough. I'm glad that they didn't. I think they've done a good job of being disciplined this draft and letting the board come to them, even if I don't fully agree with every pick. I don't know if Shough will ever turn out to be a good QB. He has warts like every other QB this year. But they obviously think he's got potential, and I seriously doubt that he would've still been there for them in round 3. I get that there were guys at other positions who might have had a better chance at starting, but we all know how desperate the QB situation is for this team, and waiting till later in the draft to take a flyer on some guy who would need a miracle to develop into a starter is pointless. They've got multiples of that guy on the team already. The whole thing is a crap shoot. Getting Foskey in round 2 a couple years ago felt like a steal, there's a good chance he doesn't even make the team this year. I look at the Shough pick like this, I'm glad there was a guy there who they had a strong enough belief in to take with an early 2nd round pick. I'm glad that it didn't cost multiple picks to get him. If he works out, great. If not, you're probably picking high again next year and you take another shot. I say invest as many picks as you have to into finding yourself a good QB. I think the days of a great defense being able to carry a Trent Dilfer across the finish line are gone. You need a stud QB, and until you get one you're only ever going to be an also ran.

The Saints has 5 accomplished former QBs on staff.

I'm willing to wait and see how this plays out.

The kid looks pretty damned good on tape...

And I pray this comment ages poorly.
We're never gonna be free of him on our backs until someone takes him. The Saints could have had him in round 2 if they wanted him. But they didn't. They are not trading a guy they did homework on.

Not worried about the injuries at all. Collar bone break which was not repaired via surgery initially. The following year it was repaired surgically and has not been any issue since. The only other injury came as a broken ankle on a hip drop tackle. There's no way anyone can prevent that and it is now illegal. That's it. He played every snap last season.

As for age, two medical redshirt years and the COVID year. If he gives us even ten years he only 35, still in the prime for QB's these days. He could very well be the day one starter. Many QB's don't get the chance to start until they are at his age or older.

If they were committed to getting a QB and he was the one they definitely wanted there's no guarantee he'd be there in the 3rd round. Probably doesn't cut it in that case. I had heard talk on NFL Radio that he was graded top three QB by some and 2nd round by many.

Just sayin'.

Exactly. That's the same stuff I have been hearing, Fry.
