Our current draft position
Regardless of how the remainder of the 2005 season plays out, this is an interesting resource.

RE: Our current draft position
4th yuck, at least its not 6. We sould seriously consider trading down a few spots and get as many pics as we can.
|
We're not Numero Uno? Maybe we can if we just try a little harder.

Can Marcus Vick come out this year? I'm thinking he can. Not much talk about him. Maybe he'd be a good fit for the Texans - someone who can run for his life.
AB to Houston seems possible to me. For the same reason. I dunno. Just food for thought. 8) |
If the current draft order remains in place through the end of the season, who do you think the Saints will draft?
In a perfect world, I would like them to draft Matt Leinart, but I'm thinking it's more likely to be Vince Young. |
would rather have young anyway, he's awesome.
|
Either one is an upgrade. But Leinart for sure if possible. I wouldn't be mad if we got Young, as long as AB and these coaches aren't here to have him pick up bad habits and not develop.
|
We NEED a NASTY LB or some trade down a bit and get OL or DL help
|
Oh, yeah. The OL and DL strategy has really paid off in the past. We sure don't have enough of them.
|
Please do not be fooled by Young's performance this year. There are teams that still have him projected as a wide receiver in the NFL, and I'm not sure that will change, regardless of what he does on the field.
|
We need a Randy Mueller in position to make personel calls not the current regiem
|
BlackandBlue, you seem to know alot, if Leinart were not available, who would you select? And, if you did not select a QB, what would you do concerning the QB position?
|
If Leinart was not available, and I was looking for a QB, Quinn immediately comes to mind.
He's smart, can run his offense efficiently and effectively, has been a winner his entire life, and...and...and...he's had a year under his belt, working with one of the top offensive coordinators in the NFL, as recently as last year, who also happens to be wearing three super bowl rings. 1+1=2 |
I like Quinn, too. I would much rather him over Young, but are you sure that he will be entering the draft this year?
|
He's a junior and he's 21, so he's elligible. Unless he wants to pull a Leinart on everyone....
|
... Marcus Vick is a fraud, as exposed by the Hurricanes...
... can't see Young as an NFL QB... guess some people see another Vick... ... I'd take Quinn over Leinart... |

I know everybody is crazy about Leinart and Young but they just don't seem right for me. I just possibly see a bust in Leinart??? I know!!! I Know!!! But that is just what I see. My opinion only.

Quinn is doing very well in Charlie Weiss' system, which leads me to believe he has the brains to be a QB in the NFL. Leinart plays with a bunch of studs, and doesn't impress me as a QB... Quinn doesn't have Reggie Bush... |
No, but Leinart doesn't have Charlie Weiss... and the Saints don't have him either... Brady Quinn under our coaching staff = crap

... in college, it's basically who's got the better athletes... USC today has the best group of athletes out there... that's why Leinart looks good... |
Leinart will be the Saints next Archie Manning.
|
whats that, the next great qb on an awful team..... god i hope not
|
The draft order has been updated. Still forth. I guess you really can't win for losing.

With the Green Bay win, my calculations put us moving up to third in the draft.
|
That is a negitive... As of right now the Saints have the 5th pick in the draft
Houston Baltimore Jets 49ers Saints Green Bay |
How do you have Baltimore, the Jets or the 49ers ahead of us? We all have two wins.
|
Double check your source, Euphoria. Click the thread at the beginning of the post. We are listed 4th behind GB, Houston, Tennessee. It will not show until tomorrow, but b/c GB lost and we "own" the tie-breaker over them by virtue of the loss, we would then move up to third. Correct?
|
Once you use overall record - if there is a tie you go by Divisional record - if there is a tie you go by points for... don't confuse rules for playoffs with anything else different rules apply to different things.
|
I just realized how stupid this is... if there is a tie it goes to Strenght of Schedule... thats way to complicated to figure out just yet.
|
I like Quinn but I dont think he will come out, I still like Leinart, I also like Cutler. I think Cutler and Leinart have the maturity to play in the NFL, but I am concerned that they will not be able to win in their first year. Cutler may be too used to losing...I say keep AB on the bench or trade him for a second round pick for a DL or OL like Kyle Williams or Whitworth that I think are great talents, seniors, smart, and will most likely go in the second round maybe late first to a team like Houston or Dallas or Miami. Saban knows them and likes them, and we all know Parcells like LSU products.
|
I doubt Quinn enters this years draft. If he comes back for his senior season, chances are he will be the front runner for the heisman. If Vince Young wins the national title and/or the heisman, I think he will go pro. Young needs to go to a team with a great QB coach as his passing needs a lot of work. Granted he will immediately become the 2nd most dangerous running QB in the league behind Michael Vick. Here are Mel Kiper's top five junior QB's in order: Brady Quinn, Vince Young, Drew Stanton, Marcus Vick, and Jordan Palmer. After Leinart, the top senior QB's on Kiper list are Jay Cutler, Brodie Croyle, Darrell Hackney, and Barrick Nealy. The only sure fire 1st rounders at this point are Leinart, Quinn and Young. I personally prefer Quinn, but it would be hard to pass on Leinart and Young. All three would be an upgrade over Brooks at this point. They have all proven to be "winners" at the college level and any one of the three would be a welcome addition to the 2006 Saints team.

Nice post Milians. Welcome aboard.

http://www.fftoday.com/sos/sos.htm
This link list the Strength of Schedule (SoS) for the 2005 NFL Season. The Saints are ranked as 19th, meaning they have the 19th "toughest" schedule (or the 14th weakest, depending on how you look at it). This will only come into play if they have the same record as another team. IE: If the Saints end up with the same record as the 49ers, NO would pick first b/c their SoS is 19th and SF is 27th. However, if they tie GB with the same record, the Packers pick before the Saint b/c their SoS is the 17th toughest. |
Well, the team didn't play, but still managed to mess up. By remaining idle during the bye, we dropped from 4th to 7th in the draft.

Can this team do anything right? lol But in front of us is Arizona and San Fran. Arizona should beat San Fran when they play again, dropping under us, and San Fran took a QB number one last year. Then there's the Jets. They should beat us in two weeks after NE beats us. Baltimore is tough to figure, as they may be pushing for Leinart. Tenn will beat Houston and drop under us plus they have Volek, and McNair has not retired yet. We're not too bad off. Baltimore can prob steal another win off Cleveland.
