5 more questions
Since yesterday went moderately well, I'm going to hit everyone up with 5 more.
1. If the Saints had to keep either Haslett or Brooks for another year, which one would you retain and why? Neither is not an option. 2. Which position on this team do you think needs to be address the most this offseason? 3. With the improvement of Sullivan this season, though not that great, ensure that we’ll keep him for another season hoping he will finally break out of his shell and become the dominant tackle we need? 4. Although we are averaging less points this season, what do you think of the job Mike Sheppard is doing here? Was it a mistake to let McCarthy go? 5. Statistically speaking, our defense is the best it’s been in years. Not judging from the past but by the performance this year, does Venturi deserve another chance? How much of an influence do you think Willy Robinson is having towards our so-called improvement? |

I like the idea, but I don't like these as much as the other ones, but let's give it a whirl anyway papz spice :P :
1. I'd keep Haslett. Cause if it was a choice, and one WOULD DEFINITELY be gone, that would mean Haslett would get rid of Brooks, and be admitting a HUGE mistake in tying his career to him, and also showing a complete unwillingness to allow players to have free rides any longer. I might even become a Haslett supporter should such a move be made. It would definitely change my opinion of the man somewhat. 2. QB 3. Nope. bye bye J. Sull. Still not worth what we gave up to get you, or the salary you have commanded. It would be just like Sully to get the coaches confidence back and show up 50 pounds overweight next summer. He is playing to save his money. No thanks. 4. I hated that Sheppard got promoted into coordinator. Look at that great job he did as QB coach. And I still hate it now. I was not happy with McCarthy either after last season, so I ain't sit here now and say it would have been better to keep him. But I can say I did want us to go after a Norm Chow or something, and thought promoting shepperd was a bad idea. I still think it was. 5. Um, Venturi doesn't deserve a chance to sell popcorn. BYE BYE. And don't know how much influence Robinson has had, but you can still tell this is a Venturi run defense. |

RE: 5 more questions
1. You keep Brooks and can Haslett...
2. OL, D, RB 3. Sullivan stays at this points... 4. I haven't seen any great play calling, If Hasslet goes, yeah you replace sheppard as well. 5. NO VENTURI NEEDS TO GO... The great quote from Lombardi I believe "Stats are for losers". You don't have to do much if you have an early lead due to ST fumbles ect. so you stick with a game plan until you need a big play and they you go after them... they have givin' up to many! Patriots due the opposite, avoid the big plays. You can give me one yard average per play but when on the 7th play you give me a 60 yard TD run its mute. |

I partially addressed this in the other set of questions and I still believe that we should have picked up a FA LT. The reason we didn't was because Gandy graded out so well in every game (according to Haslet). They weren't watching the same Gandy I was.

RE: 5 more questions
Geez you can only come up with so many different questions... bite me! Hopefully tomorrow's will suit you better.
1. I'll keep Brooks because of the dreadly word "potential". He has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Maybe with better coaching, he'll manage to do what everyone knows he can do. 2. I really want to say quarterback here but everything starts up front. I would like to address the OL and DT position on this team. I think if our DT's get better, it will also make our linebacking problems look less evident. 3. If you really look at it, Sullivan only looks better because the past couple seasons he hasn't even been on the field. I hear about how Sullivan gets great penetration in the back field one play, but then becomes invisible for the next 5. Depending on how much he's making and the work he plans to do this off season regarding his conditioning, I'll give him another chance. Hell Brooks got his fair share of chances. 4. Unlike many, I really like our play calling. I think it's the players fault when it comes to execution. All of the penalities and dropped passes are not helping the cause. 5. If Haslett stays, doesn't that ensure that Venturi will return also? My opinion on Venturi is that he blows. Get the hell out of here! With a better ranked defense this year, we still blow. Heck we aren't even mediocre anymore... we flat out stink. |

RE: Re: 5 more questions
My opinions are based on incomplete information - so they are subject to discussion. I've moved out of New Orleans, consequently have only seen two games firsthand. Therefore my opinions are based on the little I've seen, and the info I've read.
1. Trade Brooks. His production is far less than his income. Get another QB in here for half the cash, and redistribute that paycheck. Bring in a free agent for next year, draft a high QB if the right one is there. Start A-Mac the rest of this season. I expect A-Mac to be the #2 next year. Give him some experience now, when the losses no longer matter. 2. MLB, DT, OLB. 3. Same point as #1 above. Sullivan's paycheck far exceeds his production. Trade him if you can, use that cash for a better DT. I want two new DT's on the roster next season. Young should be the backup for rotation. 4. Obviously disappointed with Sheppard's results. If fact, I wasn't happy with his results as a position coach either. Rreplace him. -- However, can someone help me out here?.... Remember, he's in his first year as the boss. Has the pre-snap penalty ratio dropped off? Is he planning on replacing position coaches next year? I -did- like his move to dumb down the calling-in-the-plays procedure. He hasn't had much time to change staff. If the "dumb penalty" ratio has dropped significantly, and he plans on replacing position coaches, then I might consider giving him another year. If doesn't plan on that - then replace him. 5. Venturi? No way. Look at his career record - before the Saints, with the Saints. He's always underachieved, he will never overachieve. Replace him. |
can anyone help me id this tune? it goes thwap thwap boom tch boom tch boom tch.

1.- Simple... Haslett.
Haslett: - is the one who has created "untouchability" when it comes to the QB position. I want a coach who's going to promote competition rather than protect someone's ego based on "potential" and "talent".. At one point you need to recognize that "potential" and "talent" mean "you could do" and not "you do". - He's the one who created and maintans the "not my fault" culture. Everything that happens is not his fault.. it's all the refs... - He's the one admitting he's not coaching. Comments like "it's not my job to motivate" make Vince Lombardi roll over in his grave... There's more, but I'll leave it at that... 2.- Again, I'll have to go with coaching, because think some positions will be dealt with properly just by having the proper coaching staff.. and that includesm you-know-what 3.- Don't know. 4.- Sheppard is getting a raw deal because of 2 things: a- he's playng with half the deck ( i.e., cutting McCarhty's playbook in half) the past OC left behind. b- he doesn't have a QB who can effectively run even that playground playbook.. .. so I can't really say yes or no on Sheppard... ..another thing about Sheppard, is that I don't know how much Haslett has constricted him in the play-calling, and if Haslett is allowing Sheppard to come up with his own stuff... 5.- Again, it is not the stats that matter when you taklk Saints defense. You need to see the horrendous play of the offense and how the offense has let the defense to dry... - 28 turnovers in 9 games are a lot of turnovers for even a great defense to overcome... - 8 total 3rd down conversions in a span of three games is too much even for a great defense to overcome... That said, they do need a new DC. There's enough wood there to make a fire, but Venturi is not the match. You need an SOB for DC who's not only going to teach you the X's and the O's but who's going to demand some heads roll... |

1. Players can ride the bench, coaches don't get that option. Buh-bye, Haslett.
2. QB 3. I wouldn't look at cutting Sullivan until the offseason of 2007. There's nothing you can do about his signing bonus, and the salary he's receiving will not make that big of an impact until the 2007 season, where it escalates close to the $1 million dollar range. But keeping Sullivan does not mean that we don't attempt to address that position this coming offseason. 4. I'm with Tobias, it's really tough to make a judgement call like that, based off the fact that I don't yet know enough about the guy, or what he's trying to accomplish. Was it a mistake letting McCarthy go? No, I haven't had as big of a problem with the playcalling this year, like I had the previous two. 5. Venturi needs to go. This defense hasn't been the same since Zook left. We had a high player turnover during that whole ordeal, but, I would find it hard to believe that Venturi didn't have at least some input on players he wanted to have brought in here. And I really don't give a damn how complex this defensive scheme is, either you don't have the right pieces in place, or your players aren't getting it- either way, it's not working. Buh-bye. As far as Willy Robinson is concerned, see my comments regarding Sheppard. |

1 Keep Haslett, you'll not find another coach to enter into this quagmire right now. Any half decent QB with ambition drive and intelligence could make a career taking snaps with the weapons the Saints have at their disposal.
2 Linebackers. Get a bunch and switch to a 3-4. That's gotta be better than the current seive-like 4-3 front seven. 3 Keep him, you'll need a rotation in for that nose tackle in the 3-4. Let him get beat up for a while. 4 Shepard's been hamstrung with a qb who's version of reading defenses makes Helen Keller an attractive alternative. Keep him for now. 5 I think there's a lot of talent on this defense that desperately needs a system that's understandable and executable. Venturi must GOGOGOGOGOGO. |
