I do remember, about a couple of years ago in the Acadiana area, there was a religion Vs. school issue concerning hair. The child's hair didn't comply with the school's dress code and they went to court over the whole deal. If I remember correctly, the child ended up losing the case. I don't know if he switched to a different school or cut his hair.
