Good post GT.

My view - NO to TO in NO

It wouldn't be the 1st time we get a free agent in on loadsa money. Yep TO might just deliver. But we would have no money left so then we can forget taking a high 1st round pick.

What do want guys?

Not true on the high draft pick issue because there is a special cap allocation that each team gets just for signing draft picks.

**** TO.

1. That's not the type of attention you want. Ok, maybe you, but it's not the type I would want. I'd take Moss before I took TO.

2. I've seen what one man can do, to what I had thought was a rock solid organization in Philly. We have our own problems.

3. You want this to be a business, you need to treat it like one. If I tried some of this ****, I wouldn't be modding here anymore, because I wouldn't have a computer or internet connection, because my house would be gone, because I'd be UNEMPLOYED.

Naw, let him carry his ass to another, not so troubled organization.

This is all based off something that was heard on Sportscenter?

GoldenTomb 01-10-2006 08:23 PM

Yes this is nothing but pure speculation.

And they can't treat this organization any less like a business than they already have, so I say why not T.O.? We seemed destined to draft Leinart so it would behoove us to find some help for the kid.

Why don't u guys try to find solutions instead of doing nothing but shooting down ideas?

BlackandBlue 01-10-2006 08:32 PM

Needing a solution would imply that we have a problem. Adding to a problem is bad, regardless of how far you think you've fallen.

GT makes a couple of very valid observations here. I think the suggestion merits consideration.

First, the Saints need to pick up a few key free agents in order to be competative next year. We can't realistically expect the draft to fill all the needs for this team.

Second, the buzz is that the Saints are going to have a hard time picking up free agents due to the condition of the city and the unsettled-ness of the franchise. (I don't know if this will prove to be true or not, but for argument, let's assume that free agents aren't going to be lining up in Metarie to play for us)

Third, we have one elite WR who seems to be deteriorating physically. We have 2 other high draft pick WRs that still aren't regular contributors. So it might be nice to bring in another option at the position. I wouldn't relish the idea of 10 weeks of Stallworth one side and Henderson or Hakim on the other.

Fourth, TO needs a place to play and a place to rehab his image (to what extent he can. please hear me say that "rehabbing" will mean washing a bit more mud off of the pig). Coming to New Orleans gives him opportunity to say nice things like "I'm here to help this franchise and this great city get back on it's feet".

Fifth, I doubt TO will be generating interest in a top dollar contract. He should be affordable for a single season.

Sixth, as in Philly's super bowl run, TO can be a great team mate and league leading WR for a single year. I don't think that GT is suggesting that we draw up a multi gazillion dollar deal to guarantee that TO retires a Saint. But for one year, he could really be a nice pickup. I wouldn't even suggest giving him an extension past one season, unless we're talking a year to year arrangement, but he bites every organization he's with past the first year.

Seventh, collossal A-hole or not, the guy has skills. Defenses have to account for him all the time. A recovering Deuce would probably like that he's never going to see 8 in the box with TO on the field.

Eighth, the guy is totally self centered. He's no more a cancer than any number of other guys who have played in this league or on this team. Conrad Dobler anyone? I don't want the guy to teach sunday school, but for 16-20 games, he's sure good at catching the football.

GT is dead right in his larger point. We must have free agent help for next year. Is there anyone out there that we might be able to attract or should we pursue?

MatthewT 01-10-2006 08:53 PM

I would not be in favor of signing TO. For obvious reasons, I would also hope Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and Carolina would feel the same way. Don't want him on the team, but would also hate to face him twice per year. The dude is a great WR, just a major cancer. If the guy could not get along with a very good QB like Jeff Garcia or a great QB like Donavan McNabb, how would he act with Brooks, Bouman, McPherson, or maybe Young or Leinart calling the shots? Not a pretty picture in my mind...

Our problem is we have an NFL franchise that is in desperate need of generating significant support from its dispersed fan base. I think the solution is creating an attraction that will get fans to come to the games. T.O. will get fans to come to the games, and he'll catch the balls that Leinart throws to him. His main issue is and has always been money. If we give him a one year contract and he agrees to it, that will be a moot point. Next year or the year after that is not of relavance right now. This franchise needs to do what it can do to get fans back in the Dome THIS YEAR, and getting T.O. would be a surefire way to do it.

You pretty much nailed my sentiments BMG.
