SAINTS KEEPING THEIR OPTIONS OPEN?
SAINTS KEEPING THEIR OPTIONS OPEN?
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com was first to report that the Saints will hire Cowboys offensive coordinator Sean Payton as the franchise's fourteenth head coach. Some league insiders believe that, a year from now, the team could be hiring head coach #15. There's a theory making the rounds in league circles that owner Tom Benson will go through the motions for 2006 in Louisiana, and then sell the team to L.A. interests for close to a cool billion. And, as the theory goes, the new owners will then offer the G.M./coaching gig to USC coach Pete Carroll. Of course, this means that the new owners will be required to deal with the current coach's contract -- which in Payton's case comes with a relatively modest "thanks for giving me another chance to be a coach after I pissed away my shot in Oakland" compensation package. In the interim, Payton can be counted on to keep his mouth shut while Benson gradually implements his likely plan to pull the franchise out of Louisiana, for good. After being pooped on by guys like Jim Fassel and Bill Parcells, Benson's a breeze. Of course, this comes from that "reputable" source: http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm |

HA....more conspiracy theory. The league would still have to approve a move to L.A. which means that Tags would be flip-flopping on what he already said that the Saints would be in N.O. beyond '06.

Benson could have kept on with his "I don't wanna stay in NO" talk, and sell the team next year to a group with L.A. interests anyway. Doesn't add up.

You know the Saints just got back to Louisiana with alot of pressure from everywhere and we just got a new headcoach and found out we will probably play all home games in the dome and our city is in a very rapid recovery. I respect Glazer but sometimes he needs to know when to shut his f@@kin mouth!!!!!

Y'all have to remember that the NFL loves hosting the superbowl in N.O. without a team here that would be pretty tough for them to do! I see the Saints staying in N.O. for years to come, Benson just wanted to get as many of the upgrades to the Dome done while the state and feds are picking up the tab.
