Senior Bowl news & notes

Official weigh-in numbers taken from nfldraftcountdown.com:

This is the meat market where hundreds of scouts, coaches and personnel men gather in a ballroom and watch as each prospect is brought on stage in his shorts to be measured and weighed. The way to read the heights is as follows: The first number is "feet", the third number is inches and the final numbers represents "1/8 of an inch".

For example, 6023 equates to 6-2 3/8, 6044 is 6-4 1/2, 5102 is 5-10 1/4 and so on.

RE: Senior Bowl news & notes

Few things....

1. I watched last year's Colorado bowl game against UTEP, I think it was the Alamo Bowl, and got to see that Klopfenstein kid. The guy made some of the sickest grabs I've ever seen a TE make. Wouldn't mind picking him up if he's impressive in the combine and still available in the later rounds.

2. Seems to be a lot of fairly good receivers in this draft, even if there isn't one huge playmaker. If Skyler, one of the three guys from Auburn, or a guy like Moss was there in a later round, I think we would have to consider taking one of them to give Leinart some more targets to throw to. (Also, Skyler and Moss could contribute on returns and are both very good on reverses).

3. Tons of linebacking depth here. Still think we go QB with #2, then take LB with #34. I think that would help our needs the most.

4. Tons of overall defensive talent this year. Think we could grab a very good guy for our secondary or DLine in the 4th or later.

5. I'm very excited for this draft. With a new coach and a new defensive coordinator, I believe that this franchise has a lot of promise.

RE: Senior Bowl news & notes

sounds more like a beauty pagent than a real look at talent.

i could careless how someone looks. it only matters how they play.

I don't think anybody said it was a "real look at talent." It's the first stage of a long process, and you start out at the most basic of examinations, a physical. It is good to hear whether or not some of these guys are cut and built, or flabby and soft.

The main thing is you get an accurate look at how big the players really are. Colleges seem to add an inch or two and five to ten pounds to players. I remember when Roy Williams was a freshman wr at Texas. Texas listed him at 6'5 210 pounds. When he was finally measured at the combine, he checked in at 6'2. That is just one example of schools inflating a players measurables. Schools also go crazy with forty times. It should be mandatory that everyone work out at the combine.

Klopfenstein is my favorite tight end in this draft. I'm impressed TheDeuce... I'm surprised anyone even knew who the guy was. I was extremely impressed after watching him play all last year and I've been a fan of his ever since. I definately would not mind drafting him in the later rounds of the draft to back up Hilton. The guy has some nice hands and most importantly, he's a good blocker.

Can you send me some information on the guy? I don't think I have any Colorado games except for the Texas-Colorado, and I'm afraid I might have already deleted it

Please forget those games... Colorado got mauled twice and Klop didn't do much if anything in those games. His best games were last year... he regressed this season. But from what I've seen of him, I think he's a good add. I don't really have any numbers on the guy... pretty much gotta wait until the combine.
