FRANCHISE VS TRANSITION of Bentley
YOU TRANSITION BENTLEY. That lets you match a contract offer for a Pro Bowler at both G/C. Key here is the word contract. that means over a peroid of time greater than a year as you would get with a franchise tag. Plus it removes the $ a pro bowler gets at OT . It would be stupid to franchise him now. Test the market see the $$ involved and match it. You keep him for the terms of the contract he accepted with the other club. He should get no less than a 3 year deal and if we are lucky a 5 yr. would be offered. After the contract ends then you have to decide on the franchise tag.
To make him happy throw some $$ clauses in to make it nice and juicy. Move him back to G as cleveland has said they would and he will be a happy camper. FA a center and maybe draft 1 for back up. Dumping Grandy to say Houston or Detriot, for example, would free up the $$. While you are at it dump mayberry for the $$ too, all he does is zone block and Holland kept him off the field any way. I do not think he has the legs for T anymore. If Stinchcomb comes back he gets a OT position and we add one in the draft. We would have the cash for Holland too who,s contract is up next year. Or we repeat the deal and transition him next year. But Stinchcomb I believe would be up on contract also in 2007. So signing John to a short term deal with insentives is the way to go. That frees up $$ for the Holland game in 2007. Thats how you juggle the taggings. |
