Ben Wilkerson to replace Bently?
I don't know if anyone remembers Ben Wilkerson, starting C for LSU during the national championship run. He was a fiery guy with good leadership. He would have been probably a 3rd round draft pick when he finished his college career but he injured his knee late in the season and wasn't drafted. Right now he is on the Bengles practice roster.
What do you guys think about picking him up during the offseason? Not to start but to add depth to the Center position and who knows maybe he could be as good as he was in college and have a chance to start. He was an First or second team All-American his Jr and Sr year. I's say that is pretty good. He is still young considering he is only 2 yrs out of college. |

RE: Ben Wilkerson to replace Bently?
I don't know, I think I'd have to pass on him. Seems to be an injury liability, has 3 serious injuries one a year and I don't think he will survive a whole NFL season with out an injury and he had something like 20 bad snaps in 3 years... pass.

I remember he was prjected a 2nd rounder, but the knee injury messed him up. I say get him for depth, maybe move Bentley back to OG when you see Ben capable of returning.

that will create to much disruption when he gets hurt moving players around and on the line you need some consistancy as much as possible and he will get hurt just bad ju ju, we don't need him for depth, I'd rather have someone else.

If he's on the practice squad now, and has injury problems, why would we want him?

I agree with TheDeuce, if he's on a practice squad he's not NFL ready. If he's had injury problems in the past, that another strike.
That said, I'd like to see Bentley retained & moved back to where he feels comfortable, OG. |

I'd have to agree with Euph... but a healthy Ben Wilkerson would be okay. There's nothing wrong with a camp invite though... and it will be up to him whether or not he'll be able to make the cut.

RE: Ben Wilkerson to replace Bently?
Euph has a point except for the fact that the team will be getting a new blocking scheme to go along with a new offense. Moving players now won't affect much. And if a player gets injured during the regular season theres not much you can do but move personel around. It'd be great to have Bentley as starting OG and a backup at center if things go horribly wrong with injuries.
jrmllb, if he can prove he's worth the starting possition, I have nothing against him. Hell if he's not under contract, an invite can't hurt anything. |

RE: Ben Wilkerson to replace Bently?
if we are able to put him on our practice squad, that would be the ideal situation. i expect us to get a free agent center. we don't have the picks to be able to afford spending another high pick on a offensive lineman...anything draftpick before the 3rd for any offensive lineman is out o the question.
