I noted with interest the scouting reports for Leinart and Young, as follow:
Matt Leinart
Ht/Wt: 6-5 225
College: USC
40 Time:
225 lbs. Bench Press:
Strength: Winner! one of the greatest college QB's ever, arm strength is better then what he gets credit for, move very well for his size, clutch QB, performs very well under pressure and in big games
Weakness: Leinart arm strength has been a question by some scouts, played in a great system with alot of talent around him his entire career, not very athletic, had his share of injuries
Projection: Top 5 Pick
NFL Comparison: Patriots: Tom Brady
NFL Potential Outcome: Elite Superstar (Scale: Average, Good, Superstar)
Vince Young
Ht/Wt: 6-5 233
College: Texas
40 Time: -
225 lbs. Bench Press: -
Strength: Speed, Quickness & Mobility, very athletic QB. Great arm strength despite the awkward sidearm delivery, quick release, very strong in the pocket, hard to tackle.
Weakness: Accuracy is very average, poor mechanics, not much of a pocket passer, much more effective outside the pocket, need a lot of work on reading coverage and defenses. Does not have much experience working under center, has all the tools to work with but will take time to develop.
Projection: Top 5 Pick
NFL Comparison: Aaron Brooks (But faster, stronger and more athletic.)
NFL Potential Outcome: Good (Scale: Average, Good, Superstar)
Why in the he#$ would we want to replace a semi experienced AB with a AB clone who is projected to good as opposed to Matt Leinart who is projected to be an elite superstar. Somebody better wake and smell the coffee before Draft Day.
