this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; We are not above average on our lines I would agree that our O-Line is below average and with Bentley leaving more than likley, we really only have Brown, Riley and Jacox that seem to play more consistant than the ...

RE: Rumors are flying?
I would argue that the D line is above average and has been and if Sully plays this year and finnally gets it (I think he will) than the D-Line will be one of the top 5 in the NFL. However we are weak in the Line backer position. We have athletic LB's, but they do not make the right reads and are not sure tacklers or just cant tackle. Our defensive backfield is also above average, However an upgrade at corner for Brown is needed. |

I think you have that ass-backwards, personally. Not sure why you're so dead set on addressing the offensive and defensive lines, only. Not that I have a problem with picking up a few key players, but can we not address more than two poistions, or is that some NFL by-law I'm unaware of? |

RE: Rumors are flying?
Perfect if houston trades out and Matt is taken, trade value wise. for us to drop out of the top 5 will cost alot for the team moving up. But After Verons combine numbers I would love to see him and Hilton in a double TE set. Talk about problems for a defense that puts 8 in the box to stop the run as they have done in the past. Duce and the WR ( if they do not drop the ball) would Run wild with the threat those two would pose.
Now the Jets could go either way RB/QB. All depends on F/A and what they do with the cap problems they have. Houston could go either way with a DE Willaims or OT Ferguson at 4. Hey NJ I agree with you. |

RE: Rumors are flying?
Hagen glad I make sense some times.
Vernon Davis is an animal, and we do need a tight end to compliment Hilton, but we also need a blocking tight end, maybe he fits that mold, I don't see the Saints picking him up though, to many glaring holes. I think at this point the pick will be either D'Brick, (Cutler/Leinart although I make no bones I'd Rather see Cutler) or Hawk depending on what happens on Draft day. It should be fun to watch. |

RE: Rumors are flying?
Yeah I agree NJ if we trade down no later than 5 in the draft. but i still think the raiders will make move up the board hardest of all the teams to #2. So if we end up as low as 7 i think it is a good pick. It would help the offensive line greatly. CB, LB, and S would have to stay home more and limit the blitz options with two TE that can catch.
There is no knock on davis and his blocking skills. He is the best all around TE in the draft and he has sold me with his workout. 4.38 in the 40 fastest ever of the combine, hands, and has a nasty 33 at 225lbs. HILTON STINCHCOMB MAYBERRY JACOX HOLLAND BROWN DAVIS STINCHCOMB MAYBERRY JACOX - alot of ?? So upgrade is needed in F/A and draft |

RE: Rumors are flying?
Hands down Davis is awsome. And he has the size andf strenght to block, I'm just not too sure how much blocking he did at college. He would not be a disappointing pick by any stretch and would be an instant upgrade at tight end. Those two tight end sets scare me without having the full back back there. I remember we tried that and got duce killed. two years ago, but davis is like a big second reciever. so you may be able to keep the FB in. Just my thoughts

RE: Rumors are flying?
Only three players I would like Saints t get in the first. Hawk, Brick, or Davis. I dont like the double TE set, because I am a Karney fan. I don't see how our O-line is just a need, not a NEED. When we can't get near the endzone because of mistakes made by the O-line, its a NEED. Not saying Brooks doesn't do dumb plays (he definately does), I would just like to see what he can do with an awesome line, before we ship him out. Brick and Brown would be set at OT's for the next 5 years or more, and our QB will be healthier for another 3 at least haha.
